Gardens by the Bay

Any travel brochure or article about Singapore will show the iconic Supertrees towering over the city below. However, not many people know that these are part of one of the most sophisticated green spaces in the city. Spanning an impressive 101 hectares, Gardens by the Bay is home to three stunning waterfront gardens, the world’s largest glass greenhouse and many open spaces filled with extremely rare flowers and plant-life. Be sure to explore the two indoor spaces, the Flower Dome and the Cloud Forest, complete with a 35-meter high indoor waterfall and, of course, you can’t leave Gardens by the Bay without climbing the Supertrees. Once at the top of these 22-meter high vertical gardens, you can walk along the sky-bridge that connects the two main Supertrees, and enjoy some of the most breathtaking views of the city below.

Bukit Timah Nature Reserve

This spectacular green space in Singapore is one for the hikers and mountain climbers amongst you. Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is home to the highest peak in Singapore, standing an impressive 164-meters high, and many picturesque forest trails. You can spend your time hiking the increasingly difficult colored trails, or enjoy a relaxing afternoon strolling through the tranquil jungle trail of the Durian Loop. Being one of the only places in the city with such an expanse of primary forest, the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is home to an impressive ecosystem. Over 840 flowering plants call the reserve home, and over 500 animals live within its borders.

The Southern Ridges

Are you ready to experience the greener side of Singapore from above? The Southern Ridges is a 10km-long series of hill trails that lead you between some of the prettiest elevated areas in the city. Connecting the breathtaking Mount Faber, Telok Blangah Hill and Hork Park, the Southern Ridges has to be one of the most impressive green spaces in Singapore. Be sure to check out the death-defying Henderson Waves Bridge, Singapore’s highest pedestrian bridge, and the 1.3km long Forest Walk that takes you on an unforgettable journey above the treetops.

Pulau Ubin

You could quite easily get lost on the island of Pulau Ubin for the whole day. With its picturesque trails, virgin beaches, thriving mangroves and fascinating rubber plantations, Pulau Ubin is a little slice of paradise. Get a taste of what life in Singapore was like in the 1960s by hiring a bike and exploring the islands Chek Jawa wetlands, one of the city’s most diverse ecosystems. There you can see untouched seagrass lagoons, coral rubble, mangroves and coastal forest, protected since the early 60s. Spend your day getting to know the local people, or the local wildlife, and truly unwind in one of the most tranquil green spaces in Singapore.
