SIT Bus Shuttles provides the only direct bus line to get from Fiumicino Airport to Vatican City. The service departs from Terminal 3, Bus stop 12 every hour, taking approximately 45 minutes to reach “Roma Vaticano (Via Crescenzio)”.

There are also a few indirect routes that include taking a bus to “Roma Termini Station” in central Rome first and then transferring to the Vatican from there. Bus operators such as T.A.M. Bus and Terravision connect the airport to Termini Station, typically taking around 45 minutes to reach the station. From there you will need to take a local bus to the Vatican. Some of the best options are Line 64 or the 40 Express, taking 30 minutes or so.

You can easily find Rome Fiumicino Airport’s bus station on the west end of Terminal 3. All the terminals connect at Fiumicino Airport, meaning that you do not need to exit the building until you reach the bus station.

Unfortunately, there are no direct train lines connecting Rome Fiumicino Airport to the Vatican City. This means you’ll need to take a train and the Metro. All in all, the journey from the airport to the Vatican takes just over an hour and costs a total of €15.50.

First, you’ll need to catch either the Leonardo Express or a regional train from the airport train station to “Termini Station” or “Trastevere Station”. From Trastevere, you can hop on another regional train to get to “Rome Saint-Pierre”, which is a 10-15 minute walk from the Vatican. From Termini, you can take Line A of the Metro to reach “Ottaviano – San Pietro Station”, the closest station to the Vatican.

However, it is the only non-direct option and can take well over an hour to reach your final destination, not to mention the direct bus is much cheaper.
