Bangkok Airport – officially known as Suvarnabhumi International Airport – handles hundreds of outbound flights each day to over 130 destinations. All flights, whether domestic or international, depart from the main terminal building from the Bangkok Airport Departures area.

There are three options to choose from when checking in for a flight; use the online check-in offered by most airlines up to 48 hours in advance, self-check-in at kiosks provided by certain airlines, or check-in at your airline’s counter. Unless you choose to check in at the counter, you will need to drop off any bags at a designated Bag Drop counter and make sure you have your boarding pass printed or available on your phone.

When to arrive at Bangkok Airport?

If you are flying within Thailand, it is best to arrive at Bangkok Airport Departures terminal 1.5 to 2 hours ahead of your flight’s scheduled departure time, whereas passengers flying internationally should allow at least 3 hours.

After checking in, head to the Security gates with your boarding pass. To pass through Security Clearance, you will need to place all liquids, gels, aerosols, and pastes in containers of 100mL or less into a single clear plastic sleeve. Anything over this limit should be packed in your hold luggage. You may also be asked to place laptops and iPads into a separate tub ready for screening. 

It can take up to 30 minutes to clear Security, so it’s important to allow enough time at the airport, and if you happen to pass through quickly, you can relax in the Departures Area.

A Fast Track lane is available at Bangkok Airport International departures passport checkpoint for passengers flying overseas and within the Security Clearance area for all flights. Since this service is reserved for certain passengers such as seniors, Buddhist monks, first and business-class travelers, and disabled persons, it’s best to check with your airline if this service is available to you.
