Madeira Airport Live Departures
Madeira Airport Departures and Check-in Information
Departures from Funchal Airport, Madeira, can either check in online, use the self-service kiosks at the airport, download the Madeira Airport ANA APP, or speak to an airline staff member at the counter.
For online check-ins, airlines usually open up this option 48 hours in advance, although certain airlines, such as easyJet, open this up 30 days in advance. If you have downloaded the ANA APP, you can use this in the same way you would your airline’s website by following the prompts. Upon arrival at the terminal, you will then simply need to drop your luggage off at the “Bag Drop” counter.
Alternatively, passengers can use the self-service kiosk specific to their airline to print their boarding pass and luggage tag, before dropping off their bag at the counter. If you wish to check in at the desk, most airline counters open 2.5 hours ahead of a scheduled flight and close 40 minutes before boarding.

When to arrive at Madeira Airport?
Depending on where you are traveling to, departures from Madeira Airport need to ensure that they allow enough time to complete all check-in procedures prior to boarding. For Schengen flights, we recommend arriving at the airport 1.5 hours in advance. If you are flying to a non-Schengen country in Europe, allow up to 2 hours. Lastly, for all other international destinations, be sure to allow up to 3 hours to complete check-in and clear Security and Immigration.
What’s next?
Once you’re checked, it’s time to clear Security, and for those bound for a country outside the Schengen Zone, you’ll also need to pass through Immigration.
It’s important to consider baggage restrictions and to pack your bags accordingly before arriving at the airport. When traveling from the airport in Madeira, passengers are expected to pack any liquids, gels, creams, and aerosols with a volume greater than 100 mL in their checked luggage. Containers smaller than this may be carried in your hand luggage so long as they are stored in a clear, plastic resealable bag.
The exception to this rule is baby foods and medications, although you may need to present a medical certificate to the security officer on duty.
At the x-ray scanner, place the bag with liquids, any laptops or tablets, loose items from your pockets, jackets, and belts into one of the trays provided. Preparing your bags in advance can help speed this process along, however, you can expect wait times of up to 20 minutes during peak travel periods.
If you’re in a hurry or prefer to spend more time relaxing in the Departures lounge, consider purchasing a Fast Track pass either from the Madeira Airport website, in person from departures at Madeira Airport, or directly through your airline.
