Arriving at Hamburg Airport
Hamburg Airport Arrivals is divided into Schengen and Non-Schengen zones, so that only those arriving from a country outside of the Schengen area will need to clear Immigration. Moreover, certain passport holders will be eligible to use the e-gates to avoid queuing.
As part of the Schengen visa waiver program, most nationalities can enter Germany without a visa, so long as they don’t intend to stay more than 90 days in a rolling 180-day period. This means that after landing at the airport in Hamburg, arrivals will simply need to present a valid passport.
However, a new European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) is expected to launch in 2026, which visitors will be expected to apply for before traveling.
The next step on arrival will be to collect any luggage. To do so, follow the “Baggage Claim” signs to the collection hall and refer to the digital monitors above each conveyor belt to find your flight. Lastly, you will need to familiarize yourself with items that aren’t permitted under German Customs regulations, and declare anything that you are unsure of.
