The airport houses some great cafés and restaurant options. If you’re after fast food, luckily there’s a KFC, Burger King and Costa Coffee to keep you content. The airport also contains some more gourmet dining options; Italian, Greek, Hungarian cuisine – an interesting option being the so-called TA.SH BA; a TApas and SusHi bar which is sure to be a wise choice for those with some time to kill and wanting a sit-down dining experience.
Luckily, the airport contains a variety of interesting shops to browse; some souvenir stores, clothing stores and convenience stores such as SPAR (for groceries and essentials you may have forgotten to pack) and RELAY for all your flight entertainment and snack needs. Of course, Heinemann Duty-Free offers great food, perfumes, cosmetics, accessories and much more. The only Virgin store in Hungary is also available at the airport, selling a variety of useful items for travellers as well as consumer electronics.
As a bonus to all these ways to kill time, Budapest airport offers free Wi-Fi throughout the airport terminals (signs are also around for the ‘Free Wi-Fi Zones” around the terminals which also feature charging stations and seats). Simply log on to the wifi by accepting the terms and conditions and adding your email address. You may need to reactivate the Wi-Fi if you are on a long layover as it is only available for two hours at a time.
In terms of services, the airport contains many rental car companies to suit every traveller, SIXT, EUROPCAR, BUDGET and HERTZ are available, just to name a few. There is also baggage wrapping, tourist information and currency exchange, as one would expect from any major airport. ATM’s are plentiful in the airport too, so no worries if you find yourself without cash. OTP Travel is also found at the airport if you wish to enquire about any further travel, as well as a post office where you can send a “Wish You Were Here” card as soon as you land at the airport! Vodafone telecommunications is at the airport too, open 24/7!
Parking at Budapest airport can be expensive, luckily, you’re able to book online and save some money if you wish to park there. Head on over to Budapest Airport website (available in English) and check the options for what best suits you. The options range from Business Class, Premium, Basic, Flexible and Holiday. You will generally be paying more for your freedom of option to change your booking, as well as how close the parking is to the terminal building. If you don’t mind a walk, you can get day parking at the airport for as little as 9€ if you book in advance.
