The main airport in South Africa is OR Tambo International Airport (JNB), located near the major cities of Johannesburg and Pretoria. The airport is a hub for over 40 airlines and receives the highest number of passengers in Africa each year.
Johannesburg Airport has two terminals, Terminals A and B, which are housed in a single large building connected by a short walkway or central terminal. When flying to Johannesburg Airport, arrivals from overseas will typically land at Terminal A, while Terminal B is used for domestic flights.

Terminal A
Location – The Arrivals Hall is located on the Ground Floor.

Terminal B
Location – The Arrivals Hall is located on the Ground Floor.
Operating Airlines – Cemair, Lift Airlines, and Safair.
Arriving at Johannesburg Airport
All overseas arrivals at Johannesburg Airport will need to present a valid passport with at least 6 months expiry to an Immigration officer, as well as evidence of a return flight. Citizens from most countries will also need to apply for a valid visa before traveling which requires completing a BI-84 Form.
After you’ve passed through Passport Control, you can continue through to the Baggage Claim area. There will be display boards indicating which conveyor belt your luggage will appear on. The last step for Johannesburg International Airport arrivals is to declare any items at Customs. Each passenger will need to complete a South African Traveller Declaration form, which can be done either online or manually by filling in a TC01 form.
For domestic arrivals, you can head straight through to Baggage Claim and Customs before entering the Arrivals Hall.
Johannesburg Airport Transport
After landing at the airport in Johannesburg, arrivals have the choice of both public and private transport options to help them reach their accommodation or next destination. Local airport taxis depart from outside Terminals A and B, whereas the Gautrain departs from the International Departures level.
