MUC Airport Live Departures
Checking in at Munich Airport
There are two ways to check in for departures from Munich Airport (MUC): online or at a counter. Online check-in is the most convenient option and can be done through the airline’s app or website. If you only have hand luggage, you can proceed directly to security upon arrival at the airport. If you are travelling with checked luggage, fast bag drop machines are available in Terminal 1 and 2—these allow you to print your baggage labels and drop off your luggage at designated counters.
Alternatively, you can check in at your airline counter in the airport terminal. To find your designated Munich Airport check-in area, check the flight information on the screens in Departures or use our Munich Airport live departures board above.

When to arrive at Munich Airport?
Munich Airport (MUC) recommends arriving at the correct terminal at least 2 hours before departure. If you’re travelling with only hand luggage and have checked in online, you can come slightly later. However, it’s important to note that the airport can be busier during weekends and holidays. In these situations, it’s advisable to arrive earlier to accommodate potential delays due to longer security lines.
What’s next?
Following your check-in, ensure you have your boarding pass and travel documents ready and proceed directly through Munich Airport security to reach the departure area, where you’ll find your gate.
It’s always wise to check what you can and can’t take in your luggage before your departure. Always remember to pack your liquids in one transparent, resealable 1-litre bag. Place your liquids and any large electronics such as laptops separately from your hand luggage and walk through the security scanner.
Munich Airport security times typically range from 10-20 minutes on a regular day. However, during busy periods like holidays and weekends, waiting times can increase, and you might wait up to 30-45 minutes. The airport’s official app called ‘Munich Airport’ provides updates on waiting times.
*If you’d like to avoid long waits, Munich Airport offers a fast-track security service, allowing passengers to book a time slot in advance. A priority lane service is also available for passengers flying with certain airlines. You can check our complete Munich Airport Guide for more details.
