Arriving at Palermo Airport

The process for Palermo domestic arrivals is very simple. Upon landing, make your way to the Baggage Claim area and refer to the screens to find your flight’s conveyor belt. Once you have your luggage, you can enter the Arrivals Hall.

Unlike domestic passengers, Palermo Airport international arrivals will need to pass through Passport Control, but only if you have arrived from a destination outside of the Schengen area. Otherwise, you will follow the same process as domestic arrivals.

Citizens of countries included within the Schengen Area don’t require a visa and are free to stay as long as they wish. Several other countries, including Australia, the UK, Japan, and New Zealand, don’t require a visa, however, their stay is limited to 90 days in a 180-day period. Keep in mind that this 90 days is a combined total across all Schengen countries so if you are traveling from one of the other 29 countries included under the Schengen Agreement, be sure to factor this in.

All other passengers will need to apply for a visa and present this before boarding their flight to Palermo. In any case, passengers should always carry a valid passport or an acceptable form of ID if they are from a Schengen country.

Following Passport Control, passengers should make their way to Baggage Claim and declare any goods at Customs – if necessary – before entering the Arrivals Hall.

*From mid-2025, visa-exempt countries will need to apply for an ETIAS travel authorization before entering Italy.
