San Francisco International Airport (SFO)

Consistently ranked as one of the best airports in the U.S., San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is the second-busiest airport in the state of California. Although not as large, the Bay Area has two other major international airports, Oakland International Airport (OAK) and Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC).

SFO Airport welcomes more than 50 million passengers annually and is an important hub for United and Alaska Airlines. It also serves as major long-haul carriers such as Air France, Cathay Pacific, and KLM, as well as low-cost carriers Frontier, JetBlue, and Southwest.

Special Assistance

Special Assistance

SFO Airport has implemented a fantastic Sensory Room, specifically aimed at assisting anxious and neurodivergent travelers and their families. Located in Terminal 1 near gate C2, the room features quiet spaces and several interactive experiences, including a full-scale plane interior to help passengers prepare for being onboard.

If you require wheelchair assistance either to or from your aircraft, arrangements should be made directly with your airline prior to traveling. On arrival at the airport, you can approach a skycap porter or airline staff member. Please keep in mind that the use of electronic carts is limited at SFO.

Other support services include Companion Care Restrooms with adult changing tables, teletypewriters for those who are deaf or hard of hearing, visual paging systems, as well as ramps, lifts, and elevators.

Terminal Information

San Francisco Airport is comprised of four main terminals, centered around a core transport and parking area. Terminals 1, 2, and 3 are used for domestic flights, and the International Terminal is divided into Concourses A and G.

Post-security, terminals are connected via walkways and an Airtrain, which is located on Level 4 above the parking garages.

Harvey Milk Terminal 1 was the first airport terminal in the world to earn full WELL Core Certification, an achievement reflective of SFO’s ongoing commitment to health-focused and environmentally conscious travel across all of their terminals. Keep an eye out for these initiatives during your journey.
