Arriving at Cairo Airport
After disembarking your plane at Cairo, follow the signs to “immigration” or “passport control”. If you’re arriving on a domestic flight, the Arrivals process is quicker as you likely won’t need to pass through the same immigration check. However, all international flights will pass through passport control, where relevant travel documents will be checked. Make sure you have a valid passport and visa (if applicable).
Transit visas are obligatory if you have a layover over 48 hours and/or intend to leave the airport during your time in Cairo.
Once you’ve gone through immigration successfully, you can head to the baggage reclaim section if you have checked luggage to collect. If you lose any luggage, consult the Lost & Found desks located in the Arrivals Hall.
After baggage reclaim, there is a customs area. If you know that you’ll have items to declare before you fly, you may be asked to fill out a customs declaration form. If you have nothing to declare, walk straight through to the Cairo International Airport Arrivals Hall.
Cairo Airport Transport
The main transport links from Cairo Airport are taxi, airport transfers, and buses. You can reach the city center in 25 minutes if you take a Cairo Airport taxi. There are 24-hour taxi stands available outside of Terminals 1 and 3. There are three types of taxis available. Black and white taxis are the cheapest and oldest, with no air conditioning. White taxis have air-conditioning and offer mid-range prices. Yellow taxis are the most comfortable and charge premium prices from Cairo Airport.
Alternatively, you can book a Cairo Airport transfer in advance for even more convenience and comfort. That way, you won’t have to wait in the taxi queue and your friendly, English-speaking driver will meet you in the Arrivals Hall.
If you’d rather take the bus, there are three direct bus services from Cairo Airport to the city center, which take between 35 and 60 minutes, depending on the route you choose. Buses depart from outside of Hall 1 of Terminal 1.
Finally, there are plenty of car rental companies operating at Cairo Airport if you prefer to drive. You’ll find the kiosks in each of the Cairo Airport Arrivals Halls.
