Arriving at Bologna Airport
After you land at Bologna Airport and exit the aircraft, you’ll follow the signs for ‘Arrivals’ to reach the Arrivals Hall. If you’re travelling from another country within the Schengen Area, you won’t need to clear passport control. Passengers arriving from non-Schengen countries will need to pass through immigration. However, travellers with EU passports can use the electronic gates rather than line up for the border security guards.
Once you’ve passed passport control, you’ll proceed to the Baggage Reclaim area to pick up any checked luggage. Before arriving at the Bologna International Airport Arrivals Hall, you may need to go through Customs if you’ve arrived from outside the EU with items that must be declared.
Bologna Airport Transport
Several modes of transport are available to you when travelling from Bologna Airport to the city centre or other destinations. There are a wealth of taxis available outside of the Arrivals Hall all hours, and you’ll arrive at your city centre destination in about 20 minutes.
The most convenient and fastest option is to pre-book an airport taxi with Welcome Pickups. You’ll have an English-speaking driver, a modern vehicle, and no wait time all for a low rate.
If you don’t mind a short walk and waiting for departure, another quick option to reach the city is taking the monorail, which connects Bologna Airport to the centre in 7 minutes, not including wait time. You’ll find a walkway from the first floor of the terminal building to the monorail departure zone. This option will take you to Bologna Centrale train station, making it convenient for those travelling further to other destinations in the region. Keep in mind, however, that you’ll need to arrange additional transportation to your final destination.
Alternatively, you can take the 944 shuttle bus to the city centre. This option is a more cost-effective way to travel, and you’ll arrive in the centre in around 20 minutes. As you exit the Arrivals Hall, you’ll spot the bus stop and several kiosks where you can purchase tickets.
