Kuala Lumper Airport Live Departures
Checking in at Kuala Lumpur Airport
With nearly a thousand flights a day to over 130 destinations, Kuala Lumpur Airport is one of the busiest in Asia. Kuala Lumpur Airport Departures have several check in options to choose from. For self-service, most airlines allow passengers to check-in online up to 48 hours in advance, or there are Self-Serve Kiosks available at the airport. Simply drop any luggage at the Baggage Drop counter when you arrive at the airport.
Alternatively, a few airlines, such as Malaysia Airlines, allow KLIA Ekspres or KLIA Transit ticket holders to drop their luggage off and collect their boarding pass in town at Kuala Lumpur Central Station so that they can enjoy their day in the city before departing.
Lastly, if you prefer to check-in in person, refer to the information screens inside the terminal entrance to find your airline’s counter, or check out our Kuala Lumpur Airport Departures Live Tracker above.
Terminal 1 – The check-in Departures Hall is located on Level 5.

When to arrive at Kuala Lumpur Airport?
Kuala Lumpur Airport recommends passengers arrive at the airport at least 3 hours ahead of an international flight, and at least 2 hours ahead of a domestic flight. In some instances, especially when departing from Terminal 2, passengers should arrive 3 hours ahead of their domestic flight, so it is always best to check with and follow your airline’s advice.
What’s next?
After you’ve checked in and dropped off any baggage, head to the Security entrance ready to present your passport and boarding pass. It’s best to familiarise yourself with what you can and can’t take in your carry-on baggage before you reach the airport to help ensure you don’t encounter any issues on the day. Pack any liquids that are 100 mL or less into a small plastic bag (anything over this should be packed in your checked luggage), take out laptops and electronics and place them in a tray, and remove belts, hats and any loose items from your pockets.
The time it takes to get through Security Clearance varies greatly depending on the time of day, how many flights are departing at once, and whether you are flying during peak travel periods. On a good day, the wait time is around 15 minutes, however, this can increase to more than an hour during busier periods.
*Departures from Kuala Lumpur Airport pass through two security checkpoints, one after check-in and another at the boarding gate. If you want to avoid having to stand in line so you can enjoy more time in the Departures Area, the FastTrack Service grants you assisted check-in, and priority lane access through immigration and security, with passes starting at €43.50 (MYR 220).
