BER Airport Live Departures

Berlin Airport Check-in

There are two ways to check in for departures from Berlin Airport (BER): online or at a counter. Online check-in is the easiest option and can be done through the airline’s app or website. If you only have hand luggage, you can head directly to security upon arrival at the airport. If you are travelling with hold luggage, fast bag drop machines are available in Terminal 1 and 2 – allowing you to print your own baggage labels and drop off your luggage at designated counters.

Alternatively, you can check in at your airline counter in the airport terminal. To find your designated Berlin Airport check-in area, just check the flight information on the screens in Departures or use our Berlin Airport live departures board.

When to arrive at Berlin Airport?

Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) recommends arriving at the correct terminal 2.5 hours before departure. If you are travelling with only hand luggage and have checked in online, you can arrive a little later. It’s important to note that the airport gets more crowded during weekends and holidays, in this case, it’s better to get to the airport earlier as there could be long queues at security.

What’s next?

Following your check-in, make sure you have your boarding pass and travel documents ready and head straight through Berlin Airport security to get to the departure area, where you’ll find your gate.

It’s always good to check what you can and can’t take in your luggage before your departure. Always remember to pack your liquids in one transparent, resealable 1-litre bag. Place your liquids and any large electronics such as laptops separately from your hand luggage and walk through the security scanner.

Berlin Airport security times average around 15-20 minutes on a usual day. However, busy periods like holidays and weekends can extend waiting times and you may end up waiting for up to an hour. The airport’s official app, “BER Airport”, provides information on waiting times.

*If you’d rather skip the queues, Berlin Airport’s fast-track security service (BER Runway) allows passengers to book a time slot in advance. A priority lane service is also available for passengers travelling with select airlines. You can check our Airport Guide for more details.
