VCE Airport Live Departures

Checking in at Venice Airport

Though Venice Airport welcomes over 13 million passengers every year, it only has one terminal split over three floors. This makes it relatively easy to navigate when compared to much larger airports. That said, departures from Venice Airport need to know exactly which check-in desk to go to because it could be on the ground floor or first floor depending on the airline.

All floors are easily connected via elevators and escalators. For updates on flights, check out our Venice Airport live departures board above.

When to arrive at Venice Airport?

It’s recommended that Venice Marco Polo Airport departures arrive 3 hours before international flights, or 2 hours before European flights and domestic flights. This will allow you ample time to get through security and passport control if necessary.

What’s next?

After you’ve checked in at your airline check-in desk on the ground or first floor, you can head to security. Security is located on the first floor and there are two different zones. On the west side of Venice Airport, you’ll find the main security zone for most passengers. If you are flying directly to the United States, there is a separate security zone on the east side of the airport. Follow the signs to the appropriate zone.

You’ll need to scan your paper or digital boarding pass to enter the queue for the security belts. While you’re in the queue, we recommend preparing your items for security checks:

  • Remove your mobile phone, laptop, tablets and other electronic devices from your baggage. Place these in a separate tray from your baggage.
  • Take off your outerwear (e.g. watch, coat, hat, scarf, etc.) and place these items in a tray. In some cases, the security staff may ask you to remove your shoes.
  • You can leave your liquid bag in your hand luggage. Your liquids bag should be a transparent plastic bag, no larger than 18 x 23 cm, with liquids of under 100 ml each. Check the liquid restrictions for exceptions.
  • Once all of your items are in the designated tray, put them on the X-ray conveyor for inspection.
  • Walk through the metal detectors when prompted and collect your belongings on the other side.

There is a fast-track service available at Venice Airport to speed up your journey through security.

What to do in Departures at Venice Airport?

Despite only having one terminal, the Venice Marco Polo Airport departures lounge has plenty of facilities for the modern traveller. You’ll find all of the basics including toilets (including accessible toilets), charging points, free WiFi, currency exchange and ATMs.

The departure lounge at Venice Airport is split over two floors – the first and the second floor. On the first floor, you’ll find the majority of the retail outlets, including designer shops (e.g. Bottega) and airport staples (e.g. the Venice Airport Duty-Free). In short, shopping is great but be mindful of the liquids regulations; if you purchase any liquids over 100 ml, the products will be placed in transparent, sealed airport bags. The products must remain in these bags throughout your journey through Venice Airport and your subsequent flight.

What about food? Fortunately, there are multiple restaurants at Venice Airport to choose from. Most are located on the first floor but there are three large restaurants on the second floor.

The Marco Polo VIP Airport lounge is also located on the second floor.
