Vienna Airport Departures and Check-ins

It’s easy to check in at Vienna Airport as there are various options available for an easy departure process. You can check in at your airline’s check-in counter, by checking the flight information screens in the airport or using our Vienna Airport live departures board. Here, you can manually check in and drop your bags off. Just make sure you arrive with plenty of time to spare, as queues can be long.

Aside from the check-in counters, you can also use the self-check-in machines in Terminals 1 and 3. Just scan your passport or credit card and you’ll receive your boarding pass and luggage tags.

Alternatively, most airlines offer online check-in up to 48 hours before take-off. If you checked in online and have bags to drop off, you’ll still need to head to the check-in counters to drop your bags off. Otherwise, you can proceed through security as soon as you arrive at the airport.

Finally, the CAT City check-in service is also available. If you’re travelling to the airport for your Vienna departure, the CAT Terminal in Wien Mitte Station provides self-check-in counters for select airlines. This means you can check in in the centre of Vienna, hop on the train to the airport and breeze straight through to departures.

What’s next?

After you’ve checked in, have your boarding pass ready and proceed to Vienna Airport security. Remember to check what you can and can’t take in your luggage before arriving at the airport and put all your liquids (100ml containers) in one transparent, resealable plastic bag. You’ll also need to remove any large electrical devices from your bag and place them separately. Next, walk through the security scanner, pick up your luggage from the conveyor belt, and enter Vienna Airport’s departure areas.

Vienna Airport security times typically take 15-30 minutes. However, during weekends and public holidays, this time can extend to 45 minutes.
