Getting from Vienna Airport to the city centre by train is a good budget-friendly option. The train station of the city centre is called Wien Mitte and two different Vienna Airport trains head there.

The City Airport Train (CAT) is a direct line to Wien Mitte Station which is faster, taking just 16 minutes to reach the centre. Standard tickets cost €14.90.

You can also take the Schnellbahn S7 line, which is a public service. Regular tickets cost only €4.40 and the average travel time is 25 minutes, including multiple stops.

Standard train tickets for the City Airport Train from Vienna Airport to the city cost €14.90. However, you can buy them at a discount if you book them online in advance.

Where do I get it from?

The train platforms for the CAT and S7 trains are located five minutes away from the the Check-In Hall and the Baggage Claim area. Just follow the train signs after you collect your luggage.

The train journey from Vienna Airport to Wien Mitte Train Station is cheap and fast. In addition, the City Airport Train is known for being very comfortable and spacious. Keep in mind that once you get to Wien Mitte Train Station, you will have access to the underground lines U3 and U4.

How to get from Vienna Airport to city centre by bus

Vienna Airport Lines buses run 24 hours a day to various Viennese areas, and are a cheap way to transfer from Vienna Airport to the city centre.

Line VAL 2 departs from the airport and ends at “Schwedenplatz Bus Station”,  right in the heart of central Vienna. The VAL 2 bus departs from the airport every 30 minutes and takes approximately 22 minutes.

Other lines (VAL 1 and VAL 3) connect Vienna Airport to other locations such as “Westbahnhof”, “Hauptbahnhof”, and “Messe Wien”.
