Finally, the cheapest way to get from Newcastle Airport to Middlesbrough is by bus. There are no direct services, however, the fares are low and the trip takes around the same time as taking the train.

For the first part of the journey, you can hop on the X78 bus, which will take you straight to Eldon Square Bus Station (central Newcastle) in around 30 minutes. From there, you can hop on various services to Middlesbrough.

Flixbus coaches are the fastest and the cheapest, taking just under an hour to get to your final destination, but they leave from John Dobson Street which is a 7-minute walk from Eldon Square and there are only two services a day. Luckily, GoNorthEast provides regular daily services from Newcastle to Middlesbrough, as well as Megabus. 

The best option is GoNorthEast’s X10 service. The bus leaves from Eldon Square and takes around 1 hour and 45 minutes, with tickets costing £10.50 (12.25). It takes a little longer as there are more stops along the way, however, buses leave every hour or so and you’ll be dropped off directly in the centre, at Middlesbrough Bus Station.

Once you’ve exited arrivals, follow the signs and you’ll find the X78 bus stop on Ponteland Road just opposite the terminal. It’s about a 6 minute walk. The bus stops at Eldon Square.

For Flixbus, you’ll need to walk about 7 minutes to John Dobson Street, Laing Art Gallery, you’ll see the green bus stop there. The X10 service leaves from Eldon Square Stand E.
