The Malpensa Express train directly connects Milan Airport to the city centre via Cadorna, Busto Arsizio, Saronno, Centrale, Porta Garibaldi, and Bovisa. It takes around 35-55 minutes depending on the service, as some stop at more stations than others.

Keep in mind that the Malpensa Express Airport service is divided into two different lines: MXP2 Malpensa-Milano Centrale and Malpensa-Milano Cadorna. The central station, “Milano Centrale”, is located in the heart of Milan, however, it’s best to check which line and stop is best for your final destination.

The Malpensa Express train runs to Milan Central Station between 05:43 and 23:56.

Where do I get it from?

Malpensa Train Station is located in Terminal 1 on Floor -1 (basement level). If you land in Terminal 1, follow the signs that say “Treni” as soon as you collect your bags from the carousel. At Terminal 2 the train station is connected to the terminal via a footbridge. Trains for Milan Central Station depart from Platform 1.

*MXP Airport also provides a free shuttle bus that travels between the two terminals every 20 minutes.

The train journey from Milan Airport to the city centre of Milan is quick and cheap. However, the express services can get pretty busy during peak season and luggage space is limited. So if you’re travelling with kids or lots of luggage, it may not be very practical. Not to worry, you can always book a private transfer to avoid the hassle.

Remember that you’ll also need to make your way from the train station to your hotel or final destination, so don’t forget to factor this into your overall journey time.

Getting from Milan Malpensa Airport to Milan city centre by bus

There are four main coach providers offering services from Malpensa Airport to Milano Centrale Station: Terravision, Malpensa Bus Express (Autostradale), Malpensa Shuttle (Air Pullman) and Caronte. All of these buses depart every 30 minutes and ticket prices are the same whichever service you use.

The Terravision line is the most convenient, as the service is non-stop and takes just 50 minutes to reach Milan Central Station.

Alternatively, the Malpensa Shuttle, Malpensa Bus Express, and the Caronte service all take around 1 hour and 10 minutes to reach the centre, via stops such as Piazzale Lotto and Viale R. Serra.

How much is the bus from Malpensa Airport to Milano Centrale?

The bus stops are located outside each terminal opposite the Arrivals Hall exits. Please remember that departures from T2 are always 10 minutes after the departures from T1.

Catching the bus is definitely the cheapest way to get from Milan Malpensa Airport to the city. However, peak season can trigger large queues, thus you may be waiting for a while unless you’ve booked your bus in advance. Furthermore, you’ll still need to transfer from Milano Centrale to your hotel or final destination.
