Getting from Faro Airport to the City Centre

As the main airport of the Algarve region in southern Portugal, Faro Airport handles a great number of daily flights, especially during the summer period. The airport is 6.5 km southwest of Faro City and you have three transportation options to get from Faro Airport to the city: taxi, private transfer, and bus.

Airport taxis are generally considered the easiest and most convenient travel options; trips around the city last less than 15 minutes with prices ranging from €15-€25.

Your only other option to get to Faro city centre is Bus 16 provided by Proximo. It’s a great budget-friendly choice as a regular one-way ticket costs just €2.25, however, the journey lasts a little longer than a taxi, taking around 20 minutes, not including time waiting for the bus.

There is only one direct bus from Faro Airport to Faro city centre which is Bus Line 16, run by Proximo. The bus takes 20 minutes to reach the centre, making 13 stops along the way, including Faro Theatre and near Faro’s main train station, before terminating at Rodoviario Bus Terminal.

*Bus Lines 14 and 16 also terminate in the city, however, the journey takes longer as they aren’t direct routes. It’s also not possible to travel from Faro Airport to the city centre by train, but you can transfer at the train station if needed.

Unlike most airports, bus tickets can only be purchased from the driver in cash. Regular one-way tickets cost €2.70 but unfortunately, there are no return trip options.
