The airport is located 6.5 kilometers south west of Faro city with few ground transportation options. The taxi industry at Faro is very reliable, and have very few accounts of tourism scams, especially compared to other European cities. Similar to the rest of the country, taxis at Faro airport are black with a light green roof and a classic rooftop sign. Due to the short distance between the airport and the city, trips take around 10 to 15 minutes at most, even during rush hours with prices around €15-20.

Where do I get it from?

The taxi rank at Faro airport is located outside of the arrivals terminal, on the right side of the exit doors.


The best and most practical option to the city centre is by taxi. There is such a short distance between Faro airport and the centre, with a trip lasting under 10 minutes. When travelling with a group, your fare can be shared, costing only €3 – €5 per person. Moreover, some drivers offer further discounts for large groups.

There are currently only two public transportation options to the centre of Faro; the bus line 16 and 14. The most reliable option is line 16 as it offers regular bus trips from 05:20 until 00:10. However, the bus line 14 does round-trip journeys to-and-from the beach but is only available four times a day. Both buses take around 20 minutes from Faro airport to the city centre and a one-way ticket costs €2.25.

Unlike most airports, bus tickets for either line 16 or 14 can only be purchased from the driver in cash. Regular one-way tickets cost €2.25 but unfortunately, there are no return trip options.

Both buses depart from the bus station located in front of the arrival terminal building, next to the parking lot n°2.


Besides the potential 30 minute waiting time at the airport, the bus line 16 is relatively practical and a cheap way to travel to the centre of Faro. However, depending on your hotel’s location, you might need to walk 5 to 15 minutes.
