Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD) is located approximately 25 km from central Budapest, taking 35 minutes by road. There are three direct modes of transport from Budapest Airport to the city: taxi, private transfer, and bus. One of the most convenient ways to reach downtown Budapest is by taking an airport taxi. Budapest taxis are available 24/7 at the airport and are yellow with a “Taxi” sign on the roof.

All you have to do is exit the terminal and get in the queue at the taxi rank outside. Without heavy traffic, the ride from Budapest Airport to the city takes approximately 35 minutes.

Budapest Airport is directly connected to the metropolitan area of Budapest via the public bus network. More specifically, the Airport Express Bus (Line 100E) will take you straight to the city centre.

The express service departs from the airport every 30 minutes, ending at “Deák Ferenc tér” metro station situated in the heart of Budapest. The journey takes approximately 40 minutes and you’ll ride for three stops before reaching the terminus station.

You can also catch bus 200E, which travels from the airport to “Kobanya-Kispest” metro station 10 km from the centre. In order to get to the city centre from there, you will have to take the metro line 3 towards “Újpest–Központ”.

Regular tickets for the Budapest Airport Express Bus from Budapest Airport to the city centre cost €5.55 (HUF 2200). The special airport shuttle bus tickets are valid only for the express service. Unfortunately, there is no train station at Budapest Airport. However, you can catch Bus 200E to Ferihegy Train Station and then hop on a train to the city from there.

The bus takes around 10 minutes to reach “Ferihegy”. You can then get on an S50 train (Budapest-Nyugati) to Nyugati Station in central Budapest. The train journey takes about 25 minutes.

For this route, you’ll need to buy two separate tickets. The bus ticket costs just €1.15 (HUF 450). Tickets are valid for a one-way single trip. Taking the train from BUD Airport to Budapest is not the most practical option. The route is not direct and it requires two different modes of transport. However, it is the cheapest choice. So it’s good if you’re on a budget and don’t have too much luggage with you.
