How to get from Changi Airport to Sentosa by MRT metro

Unfortunately, there’s no direct metro line to Sentosa. To get from Changi Airport to Sentosa by MRT, you will first need to take the East-West (Green) Line from the airport to Tanah Merah station, which then splits the Green Line into two. Take the Tuas Link and disembark at the Outram Park Station. From here, you can then take the North East (Purple) Line to Harbourfront. This train from Changi Airport to Sentosa Island should take around 85 minutes in total.

*Once you reach Harbourfront, you will need to either take the Singapore Express monorail to the island, which takes around 7 minutes, or walk the picturesque boardwalk, which takes 15 minutes.

How much is a the train from Changi Airport to Sentosa Island?

Metro fares are based on the distance to your destination station. Single metro tickets can be purchased at the General Ticketing Machines at the metro station, and can be used up to 6 times within 30 days. You will need to pay a €0.10 (SGD 0.15) deposit for the metro card, which will be returned to you once you give your card back. After purchasing your MRT card, you will then need to top it up €1.50 (SGD 2.18), to cover the journey from Changi Airport to Sentosa.

Your other option is to purchase the EZ-Link card, as this is a rechargeable card that can be used on different public transportation systems and provides special discounts on these trips. EZ-Link Cards are available at ticket offices near the MRT station in the airport and are also refundable when you leave the city. The card costs €3 (SGD 5), and the rest of your card top-up is credit. If you are using the EZ-Link card, the MRT journey will only cost €1.08 (SGD 1.74).

You will then need to purchase a ticket on the Singapore Express monorail, which costs €3 (SGD 4) and can be purchased from the station kiosks or using your EZ-Link card.

Where do I get the MRT at Changi Airport?

The MRT metro station can be found on level -1 at both terminals 2 and 3 at the airport. You will see clear signs saying “train to city” around the airport in order to guide you.

If you land in Terminal 1, you will need to take the SkyTrain to Terminal 2, which operates from 05:30 to 02:30 every day and takes around 5 to 7 minutes to get between terminals.

If you land in Terminal 4, there’s a complimentary shuttle bus that will drive you to Terminal 2. This shuttle bus is available 24 hours a day from the Arrivals Hall.

Although a cheaper transfer option, taking the train from Changi Airport to Sentosa Island is very slow and can be overcrowded during peak hours. Furthermore, the need to change lines multiple times when traveling with luggage can be extremely stressful and, in some cases, unsafe. Once you reach the border of Sentosa, you will also need to change to a monorail, adding more time and cost to your overall journey.

The waiting time for the monorail can be long and overcrowded during peak hours.
If you are not traveling with too much luggage, walking across the boardwalk is very pleasant and provides great views of the harbor. This will also reduce the cost of your journey.

The station for Sentosa is connected to Vivocity Shopping Complex, which is a complex full of restaurants and stores. You will need to navigate to the top floor of this building to get to the monorail.

How to get from Changi Airport to Sentosa Island by bus

There is no direct bus line from Changi Airport to Sentosa. You will first need to take the number 36 bus to the Royal Thai Embassy, then switch to the 123 bus to reach Sentosa. The total journey time will be 2 hours, so although the cheapest, this is the slowest transfer option available.

The 123 bus makes stops at the Resorts World Sentosa and Village Hotel, before finishing its journey at the Beach Station. These are two popular hotels, so this may be a good budget transfer option if you’re staying at either of these resorts.

The cost of a bus ticket from Changi Airport to Sentosa will be 1.50 (SGD 2.33) if purchased in cash from the bus driver. Be sure to bring change as the drivers can’t often break large bills.

Where do I get the bus from?

You can find the bus station on level -1 at terminals 1, 2, and 3 at the airport. Signs saying “bus to city” are placed around the airport in order to guide you. If you are in Terminal 4, you can get a bus near the car park zone labelled 4B.

Although the most budget-friendly transfer option, the bus journey is long, and it can be very tiresome to change buses with your luggage after a long flight. Once you reach the Beach Station, you will also have to walk with your heavy luggage or take another mode of transport to your hotel, adding time and cost to your journey.
