Line 604 (Barcelona – Aeroport de Girona) departs throughout the day, taking around 1 hour and 10 minutes to reach “Barcelona Estació del Nord” in the city centre.

How to get from Girona Airport to Barcelona by train

Unfortunately, there is no train station at Costa Brava Girona Airport. In order to catch a train to Barcelona, you need to get a Sagales bus to Girona Train Station first.

Buses 602 and 607 head into central Girona, stopping at “Estació d’Autobusos de Girona” next to Plaça d’Espanya, which is where the train station is located. The ride takes about 35 minutes.

From there, you can catch a high-speeed AVE/AVANTE train directly to “Barcelona-Sants” in 40 minutes. Regional trains are also available but they can take up to 2 hours.

How much is the train from Girona to Barcelona?

The price of the train from Girona Airport to Barcelona depends on which service you board.

If you opt for the AVE trains, you will purchase a Combinado Cercanías ticket, with prices ranging from €17.40 to €40. The ticket is valid for use on suburban trains, commuter trains, and the tram network. You can use the ticket from 4 hours before departure and up to 4 hours after arrival at your destination.

You can purchase AVE tickets at the self-service machines and ticket offices in any transportation hub. You can also buy tickets online in advance from the Renfe website.

Getting from Girona Airport to Barcelona by train is not a popular choice. Mainly due to the fact that the route is not direct and takes much longer than the airport shuttle bus. On top of that, there is limited luggage storage on the trains.

If you don’t mind getting on and off public transport and dealing with long waiting times, then you can take the train. Although the bus usually ends up being cheaper and takes much less time to reach Barcelona.
