The small city of Cartagena in the Murcia region of southeast Spain is brimming with history and is a fabulous place to holiday all year round. Start your day by browsing the incredible collection of underwater artefacts at the National Museum of Underwater Archaeology and then walk along the harbour promenade in the afternoon to watch the boats come in. This charming port town also boasts some impressive ancient sites including the well-preserved 1st-century B.C. Roman Theatre and the 13th-century Gothic Church of Santa María la Vieja.
To get to Cartagena, you have just a couple of choices; a local or private airport taxi or a public bus. When you choose to take a taxi, you’ll be delivered to the door of your desired destination in around 25 minutes if the traffic conditions are favourable. The bus on the other hand takes 45 minutes, not including wait times, and only runs on Mondays and Fridays. It is, however, very cheap and a decent option if you’re on a tight budget.
Welcome Pickups offers meet and greet services and a friendly introduction to Murcia at the same price as a regular taxi. Click here to see the cost.
