Taking a bus from Skopje airport to Ohrid may be the cheapest transfer option, but it’s also the slowest. The bus has no direct route as passengers need to take two buses; one to reach the city of Skopje (WTransporter bus) and the other from downtown Skopje to Ohrid (Bus by a Private Provider i.e. Makedonija Soobrakaj, or Galeb Ohrid). With the first leg of the ride lasting approximately 35-40 minutes and the second an average of 3 hours and 30 minutes, choosing the bus is a good solution for those travelling on a budget but is not ideal for passengers who are in a rush to reach Ohrid.

The WTransporter runs only a few times a day, between 9am-4:30am, with a more limited service on Sundays. The bus from Skopje city to Ohrid runs only between 7am-8pm.

Where do I get the bus from?

You can pick up the WTransporter bus from the designated Bus Stop at Skopje Airport, outside the main terminal gate. Then once you reach the Skopje bus terminal (on Nikola Karev street), you’ll need to locate the bus based on the provider you chose to travel with. Simply check the Bus station boards or ask at the info desk for some guidance.

Convenience

Although cost-savvy, the bus is not a very convenient option here as there are only a few airport shuttles a day travelling to the centre of Skopje and the buses that offer the route from Skope to Ohrid are only available between 7am-8pm. If you’re in a rush to reach your destination, a taxi is recommended for your peace of mind, whilst if you’re arriving after 8 in the evening, you will have a very long wait for the next bus.

The WTransporter bus terminates at the Holiday Inn Hotel, but keep in mind that you need to alight at the penultimate stop which is the International Bus Station of Skopje. If you're uncertain, ask the driver or a fellow passenger for some assistance.
