Cost of a Skopje Taxi
Skopje taxi prices are fairly affordable for the average traveler. Taxis use a taximeter to calculate the cost of each trip, except for rides from Skopje Airport, in which case a fixed fare price will be given. The Skopje taxi rate includes a base fare, a price per kilometer, and an hourly waiting charge that applies when the driver is at a standstill either in traffic or while waiting for a passenger.
Base Fare (including first 2 km): €1 (MKD 60)
Rate per km: €0.57 (MKD 35)
Waiting per hour: €6.80 (MKD 420)
The above prices apply during the day, at night, and on weekends, but they don’t include the cost of any toll roads that you may pass on the way to your destination. If you request a call-out with a local company, you can specifically ask for a vehicle with a payment machine installed. Otherwise, if you are hailing a taxi on the street, make sure to carry cash in the local currency, as most standard Skopje taxis aren’t equipped with card machines.

How to get a taxi in Skopje
Finding a taxi service in Skopje is relatively easy so long as you know where and what to look for. Official taxis are white and yellow with a registration number along the back bumper. Number plates should be white, and drivers must display their license in the front of the vehicle. Taxis can be hailed on the street when you see the rooftop taxi sign lit up; simply wave your arm out to let them know you’d like a ride.
Alternatively, you can walk to one of the designated taxi stands dotted around the city center. These are most commonly found near shopping centers and transport hubs such as the Central Bus Station and Skopje Railway Station, as well as tourist hot spots. Each stand should be marked by a blue and white “TAXI” sign and drivers must have a working taximeter.
How to get a taxi from Skopje Airport
Only official airport taxis can operate at Skopje Airport. Sixty five taxis have been approved, which offer fixed fare prices to local and international destinations. Taxis are white and no booking is required. From Skopje Airport to the city center, the set price is €25 (MKD 1,500).
How to get a taxi from Skopje Central Bus Station
There is an undercover taxi stand marked by road paint located in the middle of the bus bays. Unofficial taxis are known to operate from here so always ensure that the meter is switched on and try to follow your journey on a map to ensure the most direct route is being taken.
How to get a taxi from Skopje Railway Station
Take the stairs or elevator to the lower or upper street level and head towards the car park. In the outdoor area, taxis park up near the main road on the curb in a designated parking area. In the undercover area, the taxi stand is located right by the exit.
How to get a taxi from Bit Pazar
Taxis tend to drive in and around the market while it is open which makes it easy to just grab one from the street. You can also find them lined up along Krste Petkov Misirkov Boulevard.
How to get a taxi from Stone Bridge
Considered the center of town, the easiest way to find a taxi from this point is to head towards Mother Theresa Memorial House just a couple of minutes walk past Macedonia Square. Right opposite, on Macedonia Street, is a large designated taxi stand where you can find a cab at any hour of the day.
Most popular taxi apps in Skopje
Skopje winters can be quite chilly, so the last thing you want to be doing is standing around in the cold waiting for a taxi. The same goes for catching a ride at night when you simply want to get back to your hotel.
Provided you’re not too far out of town, when you use a taxi app in Skopje a driver will come straight to you. The most popular ride-hailing options include Wizi and BeeRide, or you can try Global Taxi, a local Skopje taxi company that will connect you with a standard taxi. Otherwise, Vicni Taxi works like a taxi dispatch center, connecting passengers with every taxi company in Skopje.
For rides to and from the airport, we recommend pre-booking your transfer with Welcome Pickups. With guaranteed on-time pickups, you can feel rest assured that an English-speaking driver will be there to greet you at a time and place of your choosing.
Useful taxi numbers in Skopje
For instances where you don’t have WiFi or you’re having difficulty downloading and registering with one of the above-mentioned apps, you can phone one of several Skopje taxi numbers instead. Some reliable companies operating within the area of Skopje are:
- Taxi Classic: +389 70 279 167
- Deluxe Taxi: +389 78 228 822

Since ordering a taxi over the phone can be difficult with a language barrier, you can also ask your hotel to phone a taxi on your behalf.

Skopje Taxi Tips
- Tipping isn’t obligatory in North Macedonia, but we recommend rounding up to the nearest denar if you are satisfied with the service.
- If you are traveling at night, we advise booking a taxi in advance to avoid long wait times.
- Avoid taking a taxi with a yellow number plate as these are not official taxis.
- Cash payments using Macedonian denars are the most common form of payment for taxis, however, euros are also accepted.
- Request a receipt at the end of your journey in case you leave anything behind or need to make a complaint.
- Before starting your ride, check that the meter has been reset to the base fare.
- You can arrange transportation for larger groups over the phone or by booking in advance with Welcome.
- Not all drivers speak English so it is good practice to have the address written down in Macedonian or be ready to show your driver on a map.
Wheelchair-accessible Taxis in Skopje
Generally speaking, Skopje isn’t the most wheelchair-accessible destination, but in the past decade, the city has improved its infrastructure to be able to better accommodate people with limited mobility. While taxi companies are yet to include specially equipped taxis with ramps, hydraulic lifts, or safety straps in their fleet, there is usually enough room for a foldable wheelchair in regular taxis.
If you do require a specialized vehicle, we suggest reaching out to a private transfer company such as Welcome so that arrangements can be made on your behalf.
Safety and Complaints for Skopje Taxis
Since taxis are regulated by the government, and drivers must adhere to certain regulations to maintain their licenses, you should feel at ease when taking a cab in Skopje. However, travelers should always ensure that they are taking an official and insist that the meter is used to avoid being overcharged.
If you do encounter any issues or believe you have been overcharged, note down the vehicle and driver registration details and report the matter to the associated company. For more serious matters, use the details to make a complaint at the nearest police station.
