There is no direct option from Zanzibar airport to Nungwi; you will first have to make your way to Stone Town – taking 30 minutes. Here, you can get the dala dala No. 116 to Nungwi which takes 1 hour 30 minutes.

From Zanzibar airport to Stone Town: You can find the Dala Dala buses outside ZNZ’s main terminal building. You can then find the buses heading to Nungwi at the Darajani market.

Although being a much cheaper travel option taking a dala dala is a very adventurous choice and not suited to everyone. Vehicle space is very cramped, and suitcase storage is not provided. Also, you will have to make your way to Stone Town before getting a bus to Nungwi, which can be tedious, especially after a long flight.

Dala dalas are best suited to backpackers, as the buses don't have storage; you must put your bags on your lap or on the roof. Moreover, the price per bag is $0.20 (€0.20).

Never pay for a dala dala trip beforehand - you should always pay in the vehicle, upon boarding.
Please note that there are no set times for dala dalas - you will have to wait for one and then wait for the bus to fill up before the driver leaves.
