The scenic city of Wollongong (usually called just “The Gong” by locals) is located 80 km south of Sydney Airport in the Illawarra region of New South Wales. Built along a narrow coastal strip between the Illawarra Escarpment and the Pacific Ocean, it initially became an attraction point for people worldwide due to the heavy industry operating in the area. In today’s landscape, Wollongong is a busy port, a centre for the arts, and a tourism hotspot for visitors who flock to enjoy the seaside beauties of New South Wales.
Once you land at SYD, there are two ways to reach the city; train and taxi. The Sydney Airport to Wollongong train takes approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, with a change of train at Wolli Creek Station. An airport taxi or private transfer instead, will need 70 minutes more or less, depending on traffic conditions on the way out of Sydney. The Grand Pacific Drive will reward you with majestic alternations between tropical forests and breathtaking coastline vistas.
Welcome Pickups offers meet and greet services and a friendly introduction to Sydney at the same price as a regular taxi. Click here to see the cost.
