How to Get from Crete Heraklion Airport to Elounda

Whilst taking the bus from Heraklion Airport to Elounda is definitely the cheapest option, there is no direct bus to Elounda so the journey is a little complicated.

For the first leg of your trip, you’ll need to hop on a bus to the Central Bus Station in Heraklion. There are a few KTEL bus lines connecting Crete Heraklion Airport to the city; 6, 11 and 12 are the most popular choices. As a general rule, keep an eye out for the blue urban KTEL buses, most of these services make a stop at the main bus station in the city centre.

From there, you can get a bus into Agios Nikolaos and then switch to a different line to continue onto Elounda. There are multiple services departing from Heraklion to Agios Nikolaos, it takes around 90 minutes and costs approximately €7, depending on which bus you get on. Finally, you’ll have to get on a bus from Agios Nikolaos to Elounda. The ride is just 30 minutes and tickets won’t cost more than €2.

All in all, the journey takes around 2 hours and 30 minutes, but this time could be longer due to waiting times.

You’ll need to catch three separate buses for the route from Heraklion Airpot to Elounda. The bus from Heraklion Airport to the Central Bus Station and from Agios Nikolaos to Elounda both cost just €2 and you’ll pay €7 the bus from Heraklion city centre to Agios Nikolaos.

The total cost of your journey from Heraklion Airport to Elounda by bus will be about €11.

Taking a bus from Crete Heraklion Airport to Elounda is the least convenient transfer option. The journey is long, includes multiple modes of transport, and if you’re arriving late at night – there isn’t a bus service until the following day.
