The 56 Aerobus from Faro Airport operates from 08:30 to 20:15 and from 06:00 to 17:45 if you’re travelling in the opposite direction. The 51 bus route operates every day from 07:30-18:54 and the 31 bus route runs from 07:19 to 21:59.

Where do I catch the bus from?

Upon arrival at Faro Airport, follow the signs outside and you’ll see the bus stop on the left side of the arrivals terminal, with ticket machines nearby. You have the option of two different routes.

You can take the 56 Bus to Gare Rodoviaria de Portimao, which should take you around an hour and half, and then catch Bus 31 to Camara Municipal 1 in central Portimao.

Alternatively, you can disembark Aerobus 56 at Lagos Terminal Rodoviario and transfer onto Bus 51 for a one hour journey to stop Portimao (Guanare).

Convenience

If you’re looking for a cheap way to travel, the bus is your best bet. However, the lack of direct routes makes it the least convenient mode of transport, with waiting times between buses anywhere from 1 to 2 hours long.

If you plan to use the bus system frequently throughout your stay, you can save money by purchasing a daily ticket for €3.50, a 3-day pass for €7 and a 7-day pass for €14.

When arriving late at night, your only option is a taxi or private transfer. The first bus departs from Faro Airport at 08:30. However, you can take buses into the centre of Faro from 06:00.
