Getting from Genoa Airport to Portofino

How to get from Genoa Airport to Portofino by train

Unfortunately, there are no direct public transportation options for the Genoa Airport to Portofino route. Nevertheless, there are two main ways to travel to Portofino via public services. Your first option is to walk for 15 minutes from the airport to Genoa Cornigliano Train Station and then catch a train from there to Santa Margherita Ligure

The second way is to hop on the AMT Volabus to Brignole Train Station in central Genoa. From here, you can get on a train to Santa Margherita Ligure.

Whichever option you choose, you’ll have to transfer from Santa Margherita to Portofino. You can either grab a taxi which takes about 5 minutes or take Ferry Line 1, with a journey time of 15 minutes. Both choices cost around 11. 

Altogether, the trip should take you around 2 and a half hours and costs approximately €25.

How much is the train from Genoa Airport to Portofino?

For the journey from Genoa Airport to Portofino, you’ll have to pay for a train ticket, a Volabus ticket if you choose not to walk to the station, and either a ferry ticket or a taxi fare to get from Santa Margherita to Portofino. 

A one-way ticket for the train from Brignole or Genoa Cornigliano to Portofino typically costs €5. Buying your tickets online in advance will ensure the cheapest prices but you can also buy them from the ticket machines or ticket offices at the train stations.

An AMT Volabus ticket costs €6 and a ferry ticket costs €11 for a single and €18 return. If you decide to take a taxi instead of the ferry, you’ll pay between 10-15 for the 5-minute trip.

However, the journey is significantly longer than taking a taxi as you’ll need to take two or three different modes of transportation.
