Akumal is a quaint beach town located on the coast of the Mexican Carribean in the Riviera Maya. This once-small fishing village is now famous for being the nesting and resting place of majestic Sea Turtles. These gentle creatures can be found swimming in the crystal clear waters here and snacking on the local seagrass. In the town centre, you will find a great array of local artisan stalls, boutique cafes and restaurants and a few beach clubs.
Unless you wish to rent a car for your stay in the Riviera Maya, you will need to either book an airport taxi from Cancun Airport to Akumal or take a local taxi from the airport. The total journey time in a taxi will be around 1 hour and 20 minutes and the cost will be an average of €90 (MXN 1,800).
Welcome Pickups offers meet and greet services and a friendly introduction to Cancun at the same price as a regular taxi. Click here to see the cost.
