If you love the outdoors, then Liberia in northern Costa Rica is the perfect place to base yourself to explore the beautiful region of Guanacaste. Visit stunning nearby beaches such as Playa Hermosa, Playa Panama, and Playas del Coco where you can swim, sunbathe, snorkel or even scuba dive. Rincón de la Vieja National Park is also a must; the park’s active volcano means you can enjoy natural hot springs but it also boasts several waterfalls and hiking trails through the rainforest where you can spot native wildlife.
There are two main modes of transport when travelling from Liberia Airport to the city centre; a local taxi or private transfer, and a bus. Taking an airport taxi or booking a private transfer in advance is the only door-to-door option that will get you downtown in 16 to 30 minutes, depending on traffic conditions. The public bus is the cheapest option, costing just €1 (CRC 550) per person with a journey time of 30 minutes, in light traffic, but you’ll have to wait for up to 30 minutes in between services.
Welcome Pickups offers meet and greet services and a friendly introduction to Liberia at the same price as a regular taxi. Click here to see the cost.
