The most comfortable and relaxing way to get from JFK to Newark is either by taxi or by private shuttle. These are the only direct transport options, taking as little as 1 hour and 20 minutes, in normal traffic conditions. Travelling between Newark and JFK airports is easiest in a JFK airport shuttle or a Newark airport shuttle.

Where do I get it from?

The taxi rank can easily be found outside of all 8 terminals at JFK airport. Simply follow the exit signs and look for the long line of yellow New York taxis. If you have booked a private shuttle, your driver will send you a meeting point prior to your arrival.

Taking an airport taxi or shuttle service for your transfer between EWR and JFK airport is the only direct option. This not only saves you time, but it also means you don’t have to wait in line for public transport, or carry heavy luggage through multiple bus and train stations.

Although cheap, taking the bus from JFK airport to Newark airport is extremely slow. There’s no direct bus line, so you will need to take the NYC Express Bus from JFK to the Grand Central bus stop in Manhattan, then take the Newark Airport Express Bus to EWR airport.

How much is the bus from JFK to EWR?

Although you need to take two buses, you can purchase a one-way ticket that will cover both the NYC Express Bus and the Newark Airport Express Bus. The cost of this ticket is €24. However, children under the age of 5 travel for free and you can save 10% if you book on the NYC Express app.

Both the NYC Express Bus and the Newark Airport Express Bus are available from 11:00 to 19:00 every day.

Where do I get it from?

You can find the NYC Express Bus in Terminal 1, 4, 7 and 8 at JFK airport. Simply follow the red signs past the ground transportation welcome centre. If you land in Terminal 2, 3, or 5 you can take the free monorail to one of the other terminals.

At Newark airport, you can find the bus in Terminal A on the Arrival Level, baggage claim area by the Welcome Center; in Terminal B on the arrivals second level for International flight, and lower level baggage claim area for domestic flights; and in Terminal C on the arrival level, baggage claim area at the Ground Transportation Counter.

Convenience

Due to the bus being such a slow transfer option from JFK to Newark airport, it’s not a very convenient option. On top of that, you will need to make a change in Manhattan, carry your luggage through two bus stations and wait in line for bus tickets.

Although the bus from JFK to EWR is slow, if you're on a budget and travelling with small children it may be much easier to navigate than the train and subway stations.

How to get from JFK to Newark Airport by train

There’s no direct train from JFK to EWR, you will need to make multiple changes. First, take the JFK AirTrain to Jamaica station, then, switch to the Long Island Railroad train and head to New York Penn Station. From here, you will switch to the NJ Transit train and travel to the Newark Airport Railway. Finally, take the Newark AirTrain from the Newark airport railroad to Terminal A, B or C.

How much is the train from JFK Airport to Newark Airport?

The total cost for the journey from JFK to Newark or EWR to JFK is around €23. Each train must be paid for separately and prices can increase depending on the day.

The JFK AirTrain costs €7 one-way, the Long Island Railroad costs €5, and the NJ Transit costs €11 (which includes the price of the Newark AirTrain).

If you’re travelling in the direction of JFK to Newark, you can find the JFK AirTrain by following the “red line” signs in Terminal 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 8.

When travelling from EWR to JFK, you can find the Newark AirTrain at Terminal A, B and C. The travel time between terminals is around 2 minutes.

Although taking the train seems like a quick and cheap transfer option, the reality is that you will need to make changes in 4 train stations. This not only adds time to your journey, but it leaves your personal belongings and loved ones exposed to the public many times.
