Monaco, and especially Monte Carlo, is a very popular tourist destination along the coast from Nice. There are three transfer options to get you to Monaco from Nice Airport, however there are only two direct ones – bus and taxi. The train service requires an extra transfer. Getting a Nice airport taxi is the most comfortable option and scenic route, taking 40 minutes, yet the journey will cost 90€. If you take the bus, it will take the freeway, getting you there in only 35 minutes and for just 22€. If you wish to take the train the journey time is the quickest at only 20 minutes (plus transfer time to the station) and you can expect to pay around 5€.

How to get from Nice airport to Monaco by bus

Much like to Cannes, Nice Airport operates an Express Bus #110 that leaves from the airport every 30 minutes and takes you to Monaco Monte Carlo Central, making a few good stops along the way. The bus takes the freeway and the trip to Monaco lasts around 35 minutes.

The bus is available from terminals 1 and 2, which are clearly marked for the Express Shuttle; you should pass the ticket windows before reaching the bus stop.

The bus is available from the airport, which saves any further transfer time, however it can be quite crowded and therefore if you are unable to get on the bus you may have to wait for the next one which can add a lot of time to the journey. As well as this, the bus price is quite expensive.

Tickets purchased for the bus do not guarantee you a seat. If you purchase a ticket it is valid for the day and so you might have to wait for the next bus if it is too crowded.

If you have a lot of luggage, be warned the bus might be crowded and luggage space is limited.

How to get from Nice airport to Monaco by train

The best way to take the train to Monaco is to leave from Nice Ville Gare station, however this is not walk-able distance from the airport and will require a bus or taxi (approx 10 minutes, costing 6€) to reach. From here, the train will only take 25 minutes at most to Monaco Monte Carlo.

Alternatively, you can take the train from the St Augustin station which is within walking distance from Terminal 1 at the airport. The train is likely to take a bit longer from this station (around 35 minutes) but is easily accessed from the airport.

How much is the train from Nice airport to Monaco?

Depending on when you buy your ticket, the price can be as little as 3.90€ for the journey, however the average price is around 5€ if purchased from the station.

It is usually best to pre-purchase tickets at the airport booths rather than at the station as this can be cheaper and take less time.

Where do I get it from?

The train can be taken from either Nice-St Augustin station or Nice-Ville Gare station. The latter is the larger and closer to Monaco, therefore it can make the journey a little quicker. However, you will need to take a bus or a taxi to reach it as, unlike St Augustin, it is not within walk-able distance of the airport.

Although the train is a fast and affordable method to reach Monaco it is not as convenient due to the fact that you will need to first transfer to a station to catch it which can cost time and money and is not ideal for those short on either.

If you are tossing up between the train and the bus, it is often less crowded on the trains, so if you have lots of luggage or are travelling in peak times, this is the better option.
