Getting from Malpensa Airport to Lake Como by train is not the most convenient option, as the journey is long because there are no direct services connecting the two destinations. Nevertheless, you can use Trenord trains to get to Lake Como, as long as you don’t mind making at least one change.

There are two main routes when it comes to travelling via rail. You can take a train from the airport to “Saronno Station” (Stazione Ferroviaria di Saronno) and then catch a train to “Como Camerlata”. Or, you can get on a train to “Milan Porta Garibaldi Station” or “Milan Centrale” and change onto a Trenord service to “Como San Giovanni”.

Regardless of which route you take, you’ll get to Lake Como in around 1 hour and 15 minutes. Except if you make your change at Milan Central Station. In this case, the journey is over 2 hours long.

Where do I get it from?

Milan Malpensa Airport has a train station in both Terminals 1 and 2. To find the train station from Terminal 1 follow the signs that say “Treni”. If you land at Terminal 2, head north of the Arrivals Hall and you will find the train station connected to the airport by a footbridge.

*Trains that travel towards Milan can follow different routes because the city has two major train stations (Cadorna station and Milan Centrale). However, you can take any train since all of them stop at Saronno Railway Station. For alternative routes from Porto Garibaldi and Milano Centrale, check the stops and make sure you’re boarding the correct service.

After a long flight, the train journey can be long and inconvenient, especially as there is no direct route.
