The most convenient way to reach Budapest downtown area is by taking a taxi. Since 2013 all Budapest airport taxis are required to be yellow-colored and have a taxi roof sign. It is important to note that during rush hour there is always a queue for the taxis; therefore, you must wait in line to get one. Under normal traffic conditions, the taxi ride to the city centre takes approximately 35 minutes. It is suggested to book your taxi in advance in order to save time and avoid communication issues with the local drivers.

How to get from Budapest airport to city centre by bus

The bus system of Budapest airport is directly connected with the metropolitan area of Budapest. In fact, it was only recently that the bus line 100E started operating the route from the airport to the Deák Ferenc tér central metro station. Bus 100E departs from the airport every 30 minutes and the trip takes approximately 35 minutes.

*There is also the bus line 200E which travels from the airport to Kobanya-Kispest metro station. However, in order to get to the city centre from there you will have to take the M3 metro line towards Újpest–Központ.

Regular tickets for the airport shuttle bus 100E cost 3€ (900 HUF) per person and can be purchased from the customer service centres, newsagents, ticket offices or ticket vending machine in the arrivals hall.

Bus 100E runs from 05:00 a.m to 00:30 a.m. The night bus 900 runs from the airport to Kobanya-Kispest from 00:30 a.m to 04:00 a.m.

Where do I get it from?

Bus 100E departs from the BKK stop which located between the two terminals on the arrivals level.

Bus 200E stop is located just outside of terminal 2.

Taking the bus is a popular option among tourists who are travelling from the airport to central Budapest. However, as it was mentioned above, the bus journey is not always a direct one and that can be very challenging and inconvenient.

Editor’s Note

If you land at the airport after 00:30 a.m you can take the bus 900 and switch to bus 950 or 950A at Kobanya-Kispest station in order to reach the city centre of Budapest.
