Thessaloniki Airport taxi price
Thessaloniki Airport taxi drivers all follow a government-regulated charging system and are required to use a taximeter. You won’t be able to find a set-rate fee for your journey into Thessaloniki with a local taxi, as each trip is calculated using a taximeter based on time and distance travelled. Furthermore, there is a 75% fare increase for rides taken at night between 24:00 – 05:00, and there are additional charges for extra luggage (€0.43), beginning your journey at the airport (€3.47), as well as the port, bus station and train station (€1.18).
For a regular taxi that seats 4 passengers, the average Thessaloniki Airport taxi cost for a ride during the day between Thessaloniki Airport and the city centre should be around €20 and at night, no more than €30. If you’re travelling further along the coast to Katerini, your fare will cost about €72 during the day and €125 at night, and to Halkidiki, between €48 and €83, depending on the time of day and traffic.
*For a competitive fixed fare with no added fees, you can pre-book your taxi from Thessaloniki Airport with Welcome Pickups.

Where to get a Thessaloniki Airport taxi?
The official Thessaloniki Airport taxi stand is located on the Ground Floor, between the Domestic and International Arrivals Area. To take a taxi from Thessaloniki Airport, simply exit through Doors 3 or 4, and take the first cab in the line. Be sure to only take an official taxi; look for a blue and white vehicle with yellow number plates and a ‘Taxi’ light on the roof. A list of the current meter rates should also be on display. Keep in mind that if you phone and arrange a taxi there will be a call-out fee of around €6, although the price may vary depending on the company.
To skip the crowds and beat the heat, we recommend pre-booking your airport taxi with Welcome Pickups. That way, when you land, a friendly English-speaking driver will be waiting for you on arrival, ready to take you straight to your private air-conditioned vehicle for a direct and seamless transfer.
Useful tips for getting a taxi from Thessaloniki Airport
- Check that the taximeter is set to zero at the start of your journey to avoid being overcharged.
- Always ask your driver for a receipt at the end of your journey. You’ll need this if you leave anything behind or need to make a complaint.
- Although most taxis in Thessaloniki accept both cash and cards, it's best to check with the driver before starting the trip to avoid an awkward situation on arrival.
- Booking an airport taxi in advance with Welcome Pickups, especially during peak hours, not only saves time but guarantees there’ll be an English-speaking driver waiting for you on arrival.
- Tipping isn’t mandatory in Greece, however, if you feel like leaving something extra, your driver will certainly appreciate it!
- Only use the official taxi ranks outside the arrivals terminal and avoid accepting a ride from anyone who approaches you inside the terminal as they are known to take advantage of tourists.
- While many Greek taxi drivers speak basic English, having your hotel address written down in Greek can be very helpful.
- Thessaloniki taxis are metered, but for longer journeys trips outside the city centre, it might be more reasonable to negotiate a fare. Just be sure to agree on a price before setting off.
- At night, taxi prices increase considerably which is why we recommend pre-booking an airport taxi with Welcome Pickups to secure a set rate fare with no extra costs.
A Thessaloniki Airport taxi to your hotel
A public bus service run by OASTH is available from outside the Departures Area of Terminal 1, however, there can be long wait times (40 minutes) in between services and the journey takes twice as long as an airport taxi, and let’s be honest, nobody wants to be stuck on a hot stuffy bus while on holiday!
Although taking a Thessaloniki Airport taxi may be the most expensive transfer option, it’s also the most convenient, time-saving and hassle-free choice. You won’t need to waste precious moments of your vacation waiting in lines or putting your personal belongings at risk. Instead, you can walk off the plane, collect your luggage and hop into a private car that will whisk you off to your hotel in minutes.
