Choosing a Bergen Airport taxi

After landing at Bergen Airport (BGO), a Bergen Airport taxi is the easiest and most convenient way to get to your destination in the city center. Bergen isn’t known for its sunny weather, so this way you won’t need to worry about carrying your luggage or walking in the rain after landing.

When you use a taxi service at Bergen Airport, you’ll reach your accommodation in the city center in as little as 20 minutes, while the journey to Hardangerfjord takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes. Taxis are metered and available 24/7, typically seating up to four passengers in a sedan, or eight in a minivan.

Bergen Airport Taxi Cost

Bergen Airport taxi rates are calculated using a taximeter which adds the time and distance traveled, as well as a base fare. There is a minimum charge, along with additional surcharges applied at night, during peak hours, on weekends, and on public holidays. There is also a €0.85 (NOK 10) charge for pickups from the airport, and any road tolls you pass will be added to the final fare.

There are three types of vehicles available that increase in price with the number of passengers. Sedans can seat up to 4 passengers, minivans can seat up to 8, and minibuses have space for 16 passengers. Furthermore, some taxi companies offer a guaranteed maximum price so that even if the meter reading is higher, they will honor the maximum price amount.

For instance, Bergen Taxi offers a maximum price rate of €48.50 (NOK 580) to certain postcodes within the city center, excluding tolls or the airport surcharge fee. If you require a minivan, the price increases to €69 (NOK 820). To reach Mount Floyen, located 21 km from the airport, the ride should cost around €63 (NOK 750) during the day for up to 4 passengers. Or, perhaps you’d like to stop off to see the medieval Fantoft Stave Church, which should cost around €29.40 (NOK 350) for the 12-minute journey.

If you’d rather avoid all the hidden extras that come with taking a metered taxi, you can secure a fixed fare price when you book in advance with Welcome Pickups.

Where to find a Taxi Service at Bergen Airport

The official Bergen Airport taxi stand is outside the Arrivals Hall on the Ground Floor. If you need assistance, there is an Information Counter inside the terminal after the Baggage Claim.

While you’ll find a line of taxis waiting at the stand, you’re welcome to choose any driver in the line if you prefer a particular company. Note that each taxi company sets its own prices and they can vary by up to 30%, so it pays to ask for the price in advance.

If you’d rather not wait in line or don’t want the stress of trying to find the best service, you can secure a meet-and-greet with Welcome Pickups instead and benefit from a driver waiting for you upon landing.

Useful tips for getting a taxi from Bergen Airport

  1. Since each taxi company charges different rates, it pays to ask a few drivers if they have a maximum price limit to find the cheapest option.
  2. If a taxi company offers a guaranteed maximum price fare, be sure to check that your hotel falls within the right postcode area, otherwise, you may be charged a full fare.
  3. Most Bergen taxi drivers speak a little English, plus the town is quite small so they should know how to find your hotel. Nevertheless, be sure to have it written down or available on a map to show the driver.
  4. Some taxi companies allow you to book a ride through an app which allows them to pick you up from the front of the queue. Keep in mind that there may be an additional fee for this service.
  5. Wheelchair-adapted vehicles are available on request but it is best to book your ride in advance to ensure one is available for when you land.
  6. It is common to pay for your Bergen Airport taxi by credit card, but it is also possible to pay in cash using the Norwegian Kroner.
  7. Check that the meter has been reset to the correct base fare before starting your ride.
  8. Always ask for a receipt at the end of your trip in case you leave anything behind.
  9. Using a Bergen Airport Taxi is safe, as Norway is generally considered to be a very traveler-friendly country.

A Bergen Airport taxi to your Hotel

There’s no way around it, Bergen can be very cold. When it snows, the streets become very slippery and unpleasant to navigate, especially if you have luggage. Furthermore, you’ll need to overcome the language barrier to make sure you’re heading in the right direction.

To make sure you are all snugly and warm on the way to your hotel, it is best to book a door-to-door Bergen Airport taxi. With vehicles to suit all group sizes, you can reach your destination in comfort and privacy in half the time it takes by train or bus.
