Where to get a taxi from Madrid Airport?

Madrid Airport’s taxi ranks are located directly outside the terminal arrivals areas (T1, T2, T3, and T4). You’ll also find ranks outside the departure areas of T1, T2, and T4. Upon exiting these areas, you’ll see white taxis with red stripes lined up in the ranks ahead of you. Just keep in mind that demand is high during peak season, so you may end up queuing for a while.

If you pre-book your taxi from Madrid Airport with us – there’s no need to waste time waiting for an empty taxi. Instead, your trained English-speaking driver will meet you outside the Arrivals Hall holding a sign with your name on it and guide you directly to your pre-booked vehicle.

Useful tips for getting a taxi from Madrid Airport

  1. Official Madrid taxis calculate fares using a taximeter. However, there is a fixed fare for routes to and from the airport to the central area of Madrid (Tariff 4).
  2. If you’re staying outside the city’s central ring, your final fare will be calculated using a taximeter, based on the distance travelled. In these cases, we recommend booking a private transfer.
  3. You can tell a taxi is free when the green light in the window or on the roof is lit up.
  4. Double-check the fixed fare with the driver before starting your ride.
  5. Never accept rides from unlicensed drivers offering their services in the main terminal.
  6. Always ask for the receipt in case you need to file a complaint or claim a lost item.
  7. Waiting times for airport taxis in Madrid can be especially long during peak season (June-August) and school holidays. We recommend booking a private transfer in advance for a speedy and seamless arrival all year round.
  8. Tipping your taxi driver is not expected in Spain, however, you can round up the fare if the service is excellent.
  9. Not all taxis at Madrid Airport accept credit card payments. To avoid any issues, carry enough cash in the local currency (€), including small change.
  10. Local taxi drivers may not speak fluent English, while private transfer services usually offer guaranteed English-speaking services.
  11. If you think you have been scammed or overcharged, write down the taxi driver’s name, ID number and the number of your taxi. You can then contact the taxi company or the foreign tourist police to file a complaint.
