Directions for your transfer from Marrakech airport

Marrakech Menara Airport is considered the main airport of the Marrakesh province. The shortest route to the city centre is 4.4 km, so your Marrakech airport taxi ride shouldn’t take longer than 12 minutes in light traffic. Once your driver exits the airport compound, he will take Menara Avenue and then turn right onto Prince Moulay Rachid. Reaching the Menara mall, your driver will then turn left onto Mohamed VI Boulevard and head north until he reaches the downtown district of Marrakech. From here, your driver will use the local roads to reach your hotel.

A Marrakech taxi for you

Thanks to the exchange rate, taking a Marrakech taxi isn’t only fast, reliable and comfortable, it’s also extremely affordable. You won’t need to worry about your personal belongings on crowded buses or waste hours of your precious vacation time waiting in line. Instead, you can jump into an air-conditioned Marrakech airport taxi and make your way to your hotel without any hassle or stress.

Once you’re in the city centre of Marrakech, taking a taxi is extremely easy. The first thing you should note is that there are two types of taxis in Marrakech, Petit and Grand. Petit taxis can fit up to 3 people and function like regular taxis, but can only run within the city ring. On the other hand, Grand taxis can fit up to 8 people and they have set routes within the city and between cities, much like a minibus. To take a taxi, you can hail one from the street by looking out for their uniform beige colour and yellow ‘TAXI’ sign on top. You can also walk to a taxi rank that are located throughout the city, at tourist attractions, at plaza Djemaa el Fna, Bab-Doukala, and the urban centre of Bab-Ghmat.

What’s the fare for a Marrakech airport taxi?

Average Marrakech taxi price in city – 4€

If you choose to take a Petit taxi, you will be charged using a taximeter based on distance travelled. However, if you choose to take a Grand taxi, you will be charged a set fee for that journey. Please bear in mind that Marrakech taxi drivers tend to try and scam or overcharge tourists, so to avoid this, we recommend booking your Marrakech airport transfer in advance.

In light traffic, taking a taxi from Marrakech airport into the city centre will cost around 4.60€ during the day and 6.90€ during the nighttime hours of 20:00 and 06:00. Having said this, there may be extra costs for heavy luggage, number of passengers and travelling during the holidays.

Marrakech Taxi Tips

  1. It’s common for Marrakech taxi driers to use the “no change” scam. So be sure to carry small bills so you can pay as close to the fare amount as possible.
  2. It’s rare for drivers in Marrakech to speak English and many destinations sound similar, so be sure to write down your destination and hand it to the driver.
  3. Most Taxis in Marrakech don't have seat belts, this is something to bear in mind when travelling with children.
  4. Marrakech taxi drivers don't accept credit cards, so keep change in the local currency to hand.
  5. Many destinations look and sound the same in Marrakech, to ensure your driver is taking the correct route, check on GoogleMaps.
  6. Tipping your taxi driver isn't expected, but if you had a great experience, you can round up to the nearest 5 or 10 dirhams.
  7. Be sure to write down your drivers licence and taxi number, if you leave anything behind in the taxi, you will need this to report it.
  8. The taximeter should always be set to the base fare of 0.66€.
  9. Petit taxis are only used for short distances within the city ring, if you are planning to travel inter-city, you will need to take a grand taxi.
