Directions for your transfer from Lyon airport
Lyon Airport (LYS), formerly known as Lyon Satolas Airport, is located just outside the city centre of Lyon, the third-largest city in France. The airport serves the entire Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region and is one of the most important transportation hubs in France. In order to reach the city centre, your Lyon airport taxi driver will take the main highway D29 to D147 and then turn right onto D302 following signs for Lyon. Your driver will follow this route across both rivers, before turning on to Boulevard Laurent Bonnevay down the side of the Rhône into the city centre. From here, he will take the local city roads to reach your hotel.
A Lyon taxi for you
Although there are cheaper options for your transfer from Lyon airport, taking a taxi is by far the most comfortable and time-saving option. Not only will you eliminate the need to navigate complicated public transportation, putting your personal belongings at risk, but taking a Lyon taxi is the only transfer option that will take you directly to your hotel, meaning you can get your vacation started as soon as possible.
While in Lyon, there are many ways to get a taxi. You can hail one from the street, walk to a taxi rank or call one of the many private companies. If you wish to flag down a taxi from the street, simply look for the ‘TAXI Lyon’ sign on top of the car and if the light is green, the taxi is free. Then all you need to do is stick out your arm and the driver will pull over to the curb. If you prefer to take a Lyon taxi from an official rank, you can find these outside both train stations in Lyon, on the place Bellecour end of rue la Barre, at the northern end of rue du Président Édouard Herriot or along quai Romain Rolland in Vieux Lyon.

Lyon Taxi Tips
- It’s very rare for a Lyon taxi driver to carry change for bills larger than 20€, so be sure to carry small bills with you
- We recommend writing down your hotel address or destination in the city as most Lyon taxi drivers only speak basic English.
- There are no extra charges for fitting a baby seat, but you must bring your own.
- All taxis in France must accept both Visa and MasterCard payments.
- If you’re worried your driver is taking the wrong or a longer route, we recommend checking your location on Google Maps.
- Tipping your Lyon taxi driver isn't obligatory, but it’s always appreciated. Adding 10% to your final bill or rounding up to the nearest euro is a good rule of thumb.
- To make sure you can collect any lost belongings, be sure to ask for your receipt at the end of your journey.
- The taximeter should always be set to the base fare of 2€ during the day and 1.10€ at night (19:00 - 07:00).
