Safe rides with Mexico City Airport taxis
Mexico City is big, busy, and full-on from the moment you arrive, so having a rough plan for your transfer into the city makes things easier.
Officially named Benito Juárez International Airport, Mexico City Airport is close enough to the center, but traffic has a mind of its own here. Getting to neighborhoods like Roma, Condesa, or Polanco usually takes around 20 to 40 minutes by car, depending on when you land.
Getting a Mexico City Airport taxi is definitely the easiest way to travel. Once you’re through arrivals, taxis are fairly easy to recognize if you know what to look for. The official MEX Airport taxi vehicles are typically white with pink accents, and they’re run by authorized companies. You’ll also notice they often have company names on the doors and a permit sticker on the windshield.
When it comes to pricing, things work a little differently here. Fares aren’t based on distance but on zones, so the final price depends on which zone your destination is in.
If you arrange a taxi after your plane lands, you have to pay for your ride at the kiosk inside the arrivals hall. To give you a rough idea, the taxi cost from Mexico City Airport to the city center is usually around €15 (MXN 300).
If you book your Mexico Airport taxi in advance, everything is already sorted when you arrive. That way, you’ll have zero wait time and be guaranteed a clean vehicle with an English-speaking driver.

Mexico City Airport arrival: A guide to meeting your driver
Mexico City Airport is big, busy, and split across two terminals, so it’s worth having a rough idea of where things are before you land.
If you’re taking a regular Mexico City Airport taxi, you’ll spot the official taxi counters inside the arrivals hall at both terminals. Once you’re out of baggage claim, just keep an eye out for the “Taxi Autorizado” signs.
From there, the taxi pickup area is right outside. Each terminal has its own rank just beyond the main exit doors, where you’ll see a line of white and pink taxis waiting. There are usually staff around keeping things moving, so even if it looks a bit chaotic, it’s fairly organized.
When you book your taxi from Mexico City Airport to your hotel in advance, you won’t need to look for counters or queues.
Instead, your Welcome Pickups driver will be waiting for you outside your arrivals gate holding a sign with your name. It’s easy to spot them once you’re out in the main area, and it means you can just head straight over and get going.
Also, there’s no need to worry if your flight is late, as your driver tracks your flight and adjusts the pickup time. And if you have trouble finding them, you can message your driver on WhatsApp or our mobile app. If you like knowing what things look like before you land, take a look at our complete MEX Airport guide so you’ve got your bearings.

Book your Mexico City Airport taxi service: Fast & easy
Getting a taxi from Mexico City Airport on arrival is straightforward, but there are a few steps to know.
After baggage claim, follow the signs to the official taxi counters in the arrivals hall. You’ll tell them your destination, pay upfront, and get a ticket. Then head outside to the taxi rank, join the queue, and hand your ticket to the next available driver before getting in.
Just keep in mind that between the counter and the queue, it can take a bit of time, especially during busy periods.
If you’d rather have everything planned in advance, you can book your airport taxi with Welcome Pickups before you travel.
The booking itself takes a couple of minutes:
- -Enter your pickup location and destination
- -Choose the vehicle that suits your group and luggage
- -See your fixed price upfront
- -Pay online
- -Receive detailed email confirmation
A few days before your flight, you’ll receive your driver’s details, including their name, photo, contact information, and vehicle description.
Travel like a local: Professional drivers you can count on
A good, reliable airport transportation option isn’t just about the ride itself; it’s everything around it.
With a pre-booked Mexico City Airport taxi, things feel a lot smoother:
- -Your driver and vehicle info are shared before your trip
- -You can message your driver directly if needed
- -Drivers are licensed and experienced in navigating the city
- -English-speaking drivers make things easier if you don’t speak Spanish
- -The price is fixed and paid in advance
- -Extras like child seats can be requested ahead of time
- -There’s 24/7 support if anything comes up
- -You can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before
Plus, during the ride, drivers often share a few local tips or point out places along the way, which is a nice touch if it’s your first time in the city.
And depending on your trip type, it can simplify things further. Families can have baby seats arranged in advance and enough space for strollers and luggage, groups can travel together in one vehicle, which often works out cheaper than splitting into multiple taxis. And business travelers have everything organized in advance, with timely pickups, receipts for expenses, and insured drivers and vehicles.
Mexico City Airport hub: Quick guide to getting around
Mexico City Airport is well connected, so you’ve got a few options depending on where you’re heading and how much effort you want to put in after landing. There’s a metro station at Terminal 1, which is useful, but most routes into the city aren’t direct, so you’ll usually need to change lines along the way.
Getting into the Mexico city center (Centro Histórico) is fairly manageable on public transport. You can take the Metro (Line 5 from Terminal 1), but you’ll need to switch lines to reach stops like Zócalo or Bellas Artes. Metrobus Line 4 is a bit more direct and easier to follow, though it can get busy. Overall, expect around 40–50 minutes.
The Metro works, but it’s not direct and involves a change. You’ll need to walk to Terminal Aérea station and catch Line 5 (Yellow) to Pantitlán, then switch to Line 1 (Pink) toward Observatorio. From there, you can get off at Insurgentes, Cuauhtémoc, or Sevilla, depending on your exact location. It’s doable, but with luggage, it can feel like a bit of a trek. The route takes around 60 minutes.
Condesa is similar. You can get there by Metro, but you’ll need to change lines. Take Line 5 (Yellow) from Terminal Aérea to Pantitlán, then switch to Line 9 (Brown) towards Tacubaya and get off at Chilpancingo. From there, it’s a short walk into the neighborhood. It can take up to 1 hour and 30 minutes.
If you’re heading to Puebla, public transport is much simpler. The ADO buses run directly from the airport (outside Terminal 2), and it’s a straightforward journey of around 2 hours without needing to change.
The most convenient option is a taxi or pre-booked transfer. You go straight from the airport to your hotel or desired destination without changes or extra steps, which can make the whole arrival feel a bit more relaxed, especially with luggage.
