A Delhi airport taxi for you
Taxis in Delhi aren’t only cheap, but they are by far the safest option for your Delhi airport transfer. You won’t need to squash yourself into the busy, hot and sticky public transportation or make your way through unknown streets at night. Instead, you can relax in your private, air-conditioned Delhi airport taxi and make your way directly to your hotel.
Once you’re in New Delhi, you can very easily find a taxi on the street or at a taxi rank. If you choose to take a Delhi taxi from the street, then all you need to do is check if it’s empty and stick out your arm. The driver will then pull over to the side of the road and you can hop right in. If you prefer to walk to a taxi rank, you can find them at all the major hotels, outside the main tourist attractions, at the New Delhi railway station and the Maharana Pratap Inter-state bus terminus, or outside the most popular temples; Lots temple, Chhattarpur Temple, Yogmaya Temple and Swaminarayan Akshardham. Please bear in mind that taxis from ranks often have their own pricing table, so be sure to check this before taking a cab.
Delhi airport taxi rates
All Delhi taxi drivers use a taximeter to calculate the fee of your journey based on distance traveled. Although some drivers and small groups that have broken off to form a company may change the pricing, there’s a general, loosely regulated pricing system.
Under normal traffic conditions, your Delhi airport transfer shouldn’t cost more than 5€, which is exceptionally cheap for the 25-minute journey. However, your driver may add on additional costs for excess luggage, vehicle type, waiting time, time of day and traveling during holidays. To ensure a flat-rate fee with no hidden costs, we suggest booking your Delhi airport transfer in advance from a private company.
Once you’re in New Delhi, the price of a local taxi should have a 0.63€ base fare and then charge 0.16€ per km. It’s worth keeping in mind that there may also be surcharges of using certain taxi ranks in the city and that there’s a general 1-hour waiting fee of 0.76€.

Delhi Taxi Tips
- It’s rare for Delhi taxi drivers to carry change for large bills, so be sure to keep small notes and coins with you.
- If you feel your driver may be taking a longer route than necessary, be sure to check your destination on Google Maps.
- Baby seats aren't provided in Delhi taxis, but you can bring and fit your own at no extra cost.
- Not all Delhi taxi drivers can speak English, so it’s important to write down the address of your hotel or any place you wish to visit.
- Although tipping your taxi driver in Delhi isn't expected, it’s always appreciated. We recommend rounding up to the nearest multiple of 10.
- Be sure to ask for your receipt at the end of your journey. If you lose any of your belongings in the cab or experience a problem, you will need this to make a report.
- Delhi taxi drivers don’t accept credit cards, but when taking a Delhi airport taxi, you can use your card at the pre-pay window for your transfer.
