Cost of an Alicante Taxi
Compared to many other popular tourist destinations throughout Spain, radio taxis in Alicante are extremely affordable. Taxi prices in Alicante are set by the Town Hall and are heavily regulated. All of the local taxis must be fitted with a taximeter that uses both time and distance components to calculate the cost of your journey. That said, some drivers will offer a fixed fare for more popular journeys around the city and to Alicante Airport. Alicante taxi drivers must adhere to the maximum tariff when using a taximeter and are required to show an official “price booklet” when offering set-rat fares. The Alicante taxi rates are calculated as follows:
- Base Fare (includes first 2 km) – €4
- Price per km day (07:00 – 21:00) – €1.06
- Price per km night (21:00 to 07:00) – €1.22
Extra charges:
It’s worth keeping in mind that there may be additional fees for things such as any journey originating at the airport (€4.23), keeping your driver waiting for an hour (€19.18 in the day and €23.00 at night), and transporting large luggage items.

How to get a radio taxi Alicante
Taking a radio taxi in Alicante couldn’t be easier, as there are hundreds of taxis floating around the city. You can choose to flag an Alicante taxi down in the street, call a local radio taxi company, use one of the taxi apps, pre-book your rides with a private company, or walk to a taxi rank. The designated Alicante taxi ranks are located all over the city – outside most tourist spots, the most popular beaches, shopping centers, bus stations, and Alicante Airport.
How to get a taxi from Alicante Airport
Only one taxi company is authorized to operate at Alicante Airport – Radio Taxi Elche. Taking a taxi from Alicante Airport to the city center is easy as the taxi rank is located just outside the Arrivals Hall exit doors and taxis are available 24/7. The Alicante taxi cost from the airport will be calculated using a taximeter but should be around €25 during the day and €35 at night, depending on the level of traffic.
How to get a taxi from Luceros Bus Station
Taxis are available from the central Alicante bus station while buses are running. The taxi rank is located just outside of the exit doors on the curbside. Taxis from the bus station usually use a taximeter to calculate their fares, but you can request a fixed fare to many popular destinations. Ask your driver to see the price booklet to decipher the correct fare for your journey.
Taxi in Alicante app options
If you’re traveling at night or during bad weather, it’s more comfortable to wait inside and use an app to book your Alicante taxi service. Luckily, there are a couple of options to choose from, such as Pide Taxi and Cabify.
Having said this, during peak travel times, there can be long wait times for an available taxi on the apps. To avoid these frustrating wait times, you can always pre-book our Alicante taxi rides with a private company such as Welcome Pickups.
Useful Alicante taxi numbers
To avoid having to download yet another app that you may only use for a few days, you can also call one of the taxi Alicante numbers for a radio dispatch taxi service. Some hotels and restaurants will happily call a taxi for you, but this may incur a commission charge. There are a few different radio taxi companies available throughout Alicante, but only three are recommended by the Town Hall:
RadioTele Taxi: +34 (965) 101 611
Area Taxi: +34 (965) 910 591
Radio Taxi Elche: +34 (965) 427 777
It’s important to note that there will be extra charges for using this service and you could have a long wait for a phone dispatch taxi during peak times and seasons.
Why pre-book your Alicante taxi rides?
During the peak summer season, it can be extremely difficult to find an available taxi in Alicante. With all of the tourists calling for a taxi in the evening or stopping them in the street after a day at the beach, you could be left waiting for up to an hour.
Instead, we recommend pre-booking your Alicante taxi service with a private company such as Welcome Pickups. This way, you can enjoy the peace of mind that comes with guaranteed on-time pickups, English-speaking drivers, all-inclusive pricing and 24-hour customer support.
Alicante taxi tips
- To know if an Alicante taxi is available, you can check for the green light on top of the vehicle that reads “Libre”.
- Make sure that your driver sets the meter to the correct base fare before you begin your journey.
- To ensure your driver is taking the most economical route, you can track your journey on Google Maps.
- For longer journeys, such as Benidorm or Calpe, it may be cheaper to agree on a set price with your driver before beginning your ride.
- Most Alicante taxi drivers don’t accept card payments. Carrying cash in Euros to pay for your taxi rides is a must unless you pre-book online.
- The Alicante taxi rates are higher at night (21:00 to 07:00), so be prepared to pay a little more.
- Baby seats don’t come as standard in an Alicante taxi but you can bring your own or request one online during booking.
- Tipping your Alicante taxi driver isn’t obligatory. However, if your driver helped you with luggage or made multiple stops, you may wish to round up your fare to add a tip.
- Be sure to ask for your receipt at the end of your journey, in case you need to make a complaint or leave something in the taxi.
