How much is a Corfu taxi?

All Corfu taxis have regulated tariffs, put in place and monitored by the government. All licensed taxis in Corfu have a card on their windscreen showing the latest rates. Your journey will be calculated using a taximeter based on the distance travelled, so the longer your journey, the more it will cost.

Base fare – €3.60

Price per km – €1.10

There are also extra charges for things such as each piece of luggage over 10kg (€3.60), an hour of waiting, travelling during major holidays and a surcharge for the 5th person when taking a large taxi (€3.60). Bear in mind that the price per km may increase during the night.

How to get a taxi in Corfu

Getting a taxi in Corfu couldn’t be easier. You can choose to hail one from the street, walk to a taxi rank near you or even call the radio taxi company. If you choose to hail a taxi from the street, just make sure that the rate card is displayed on the front dash as this is mandatory for all official Corfu taxis.

If you’d prefer to walk to a taxi rank and wait for your cab there, you can find them throughout Corfu Town at the central square at the Spianadha end of Liston, at the new and old port and Platia Saroko. Keep in mind that there may be a queue for taxis at the official ranks.

Your final option is to call or have your hotel call, one of the local radio taxi companies. It’s worth noting that there will be an extra charge for this service. Two reliable companies are:

Corfu 24 Hour Taxi Service – +30 6976 43 8669

Corfu Radio Taxi – +30 06610 33 8112

Book your Corfu taxi in advance

The beautiful island of Corfu was made for relaxing, not for worrying about transportation, getting lost along the winding roads or blowing through your budget. That’s why we recommend booking your Corfu Airport transfer in advance with Welcome Pickups. They give you a set-rate fare, on-time pickups and local English-speaking drivers.

Corfu Taxi Tips

  1. Not all taxi drivers in Corfu speak English. Be sure to write your hotel’s address down, in case you get stuck.
  2. Make sure the rate card is clearly visible before entering the taxi.
  3. Make sure your driver resets the taximeter to the base fare of €3.60 before you begin your journey.
  4. Be sure to carry cash in change as Corfu taxi drivers rarely have change for any bill larger than €20.
  5. Standard Corfu taxis can seat up to 4 passengers.
  6. If you feel your driver has taken a wrong turn, be sure to check your location on GoogleMaps.
  7. Ask your driver for a receipt at the end of your journey. If you leave anything behind, you will need this to get it back.

Wheelchair Accessible Taxis in Corfu

Standard taxis in Corfu don’t offer wheelchair accessible vehicles. However, there are a few companies on the island that give this service. One of the top ones is CorfuTaxi.gr. They have large Mercedes Vito adapted taxis that have a hydraulic lift and space for one person with a wheelchair and 3 other passengers. To book, you can contact them on (+30)26610 33811.

Corfu taxi complaints and safety

As Corfu is an island, taxis are highly monitored, so you shouldn’t have any problems during your journey. Having said that, sometimes unlicensed drivers may pick you up and try to scam you. If you experience any problems during your journey, you should make a report to the Tourist Police by calling +30 26610 29168 or walking to the station at Ioulias Andreadi 1 in Corfu town. If you can, note down the time of your journey, your driver’s ID number and the taxi number.
