Taking a taxi in Krabi
To reach some of the most beautiful spots around Krabi, such as Railay Beach, Ao Nang, and Koh Lanta, the easiest way to get around is by taking a Krabi Taxi. Thousands of green and yellow taxis operate within Krabi Town and the surrounding coastal regions. You can either hail one from the street, pick one up at a nearby taxi stand, or book one over the phone or via a Krabi taxi app. For a more seamless experience, you can also book your taxi in Krabi in advance with a trusted company such as Welcome Pickups.

Krabi taxi prices
The Provincial Land Transport Office of Krabi is responsible for setting Krabi taxi rates, and drivers are legally obliged to use a taximeter to calculate each fare. That being said, more often than not, drivers refuse to use the meter and instead try to charge foreigners an inflated price to their destination. If you insist on using the meter, you can expect the price to increase with every 10-kilometer increment:
Base fare (incl. first km): €1.15 (THB 40)
Price per km: €0.18- €0.24 (THB 6.50-8.50)
Call-out fee: €0.60 (THB 20)
If you are happy to negotiate, your driver can give you a fixed fare based on the time and distance to your destination. For reference, a taxi in Krabi shouldn’t cost more than €14.30 (THB 500) to anywhere in and around town. However, if you’re taking a Krabi Airport taxi on arrival at Krabi Airport, there are a few fixed fares such as the journey to Ao Nang Beach and Ao-Nammao Pier/Railay Beach which will set you back €15.80 (THB 550).

How to get a taxi in Krabi
The easiest way to get a taxi in Krabi is to hail one in the street by waving your arms. Official Krabi taxi services are usually dark green with a yellow roof and a rooftop “TAXI” sign. You will also find these taxis waiting around piers, bus stations, and at Krabi Airport. However, there are also many private Krabi taxi companies operating throughout the town that may approach you directly.
Designated taxi stands are somewhat limited across Krabi Town, although it is perfectly acceptable to approach a taxi on the street and ask for a ride. Groups of taxis (and moto-taxis) tend to gather at popular tourist attractions and near the beach waiting for passengers. Just be sure to always agree on a price before accepting a ride.

How to get a taxi from Ao Nang Pier (Nopparat Thara Pier)
If you plan on island hopping from Koh Phi Phi or Koh Lanta, this is where you will disembark in Krabi. How to get a taxi from Krabi Bus Terminal
While there is space for taxis to pull up and wait right by the bus terminal entrance, sometimes you may find there aren’t any taxis available. If a driver is ready to go, always agree on a price upfront, otherwise, it may be best to pre-book a transfer with a company like Welcome or use an app to arrange your ride.
How to get a taxi from Krabi Walking Street (Thanon Khon Dern)
There isn’t an official stand near the market, although moto-taxis are often waiting by the entrance and exit points. While this is the busiest area in the town center, be mindful that the market is only open at night and that during the day it may be best to call or use an app to find a taxi.

Krabi taxi tips
- Krabi taxi drivers can take up to three or four passengers in their regular-sized cars, and up to nine in larger minivans.
- Be sure to agree on a price before beginning your journey to avoid being overcharged.
- If you’re planning to take a taxi in Krabi to one of the islands, you will need to pay for the car and ferry separately.
- You will need to pay for your trip in cash using Thai baht.
- Finding a taxi on the street in the morning can be a challenge, so if you need to get to the airport or you’re planning a day trip, we suggest pre-booking your ride with Welcome instead. That way, a vehicle will be waiting right on time when you need it.
- Moto taxis wear red and yellow vests and often approach people in the street to ask whether they need a ride.
- Always wear your seatbelt when taking a Krabi taxi.
- The Krabi “taxi mafia”, a group of local taxi drivers that try to monopolize the industry can sometimes block Grab drivers trying to pick up passengers. Keep this in mind if your driver requests that you sit in the front seat or walk to a different pick-up location, as this is often the reason.
- Tuk-tuks and moto-taxis are very common means of transport in Krabi, although they will always require that you negotiate your fare upfront. Always consider your safety when choosing this over a regular taxi and be sure to wear a helmet.
Wheelchair-accessible taxi in Krabi
Standard taxis in Krabi aren’t wheelchair accessible. You can bring a foldable wheelchair that will fit in the trunk for free, but they aren’t equipped with ramps or hydraulic lifts needed for a wheelchair user. If you require a wheelchair-accessible taxi in Krabi, you will need to book this service in advance with a specialist provider.
Krabi taxi safety and complaints
To secure a safe and enjoyable journey, we always recommend pre-booking your taxi in Krabi with a reputable transfer company like Welcome. However, if you do take one of the local taxis, be sure to only choose a taxi that has an up-to-date ID number and an official vehicle with a “TAXI” sign on the roof. The most common grievance with drivers in Krabi is inflated pricing and refusal to use the taximeter. If you do experience any of these issues during your taxi ride, or if you feel unsafe at any point, be sure to note down the taxi and driver’s registration number before reporting it to the local Provincial Land Transport Office or the Krabi Tourist Police.
