How to get a taxi in Plovdiv

The easiest way to grab a taxi is to hail one from the street. You can recognise an official taxi in Plovdiv by the yellow vehicle colour and taxi sign on the roof, as well as the company logo and number displayed on the sides. Alternatively, you can walk to the nearest taxi rank which are commonly found along the main boulevards, at the central railway station and other transportation hubs, and outside popular tourist destinations.

You can also request that your hotel arrange a taxi on your behalf and they will likely be able to recommend a taxi in Plovdiv with a number to phone if you prefer to do so yourself. Keep in mind that there may be additional charges when phoning a taxi directly and they generally arrive within 5 minutes so make sure you are ready to leave at the time of booking.

Plovdiv taxi tips

  1. Always check that the taximeter is turned on and reset before beginning your trip.
  2. Official taxis must display a price list and the driver registration details.
  3. To assist your driver with directions, have your destination ready to show them on Google Maps or Waze. This way you can also ensure they are taking the most direct route.
  4. Request a receipt at the end of your journey so that you can contact your driver in the event you leave anything behind.

Wheelchair-accessible taxis in Plovdiv

Standard Plovdiv taxis don’t have vehicles specifically adjusted to accommodate wheelchair users, although they will be able to provide assistance and space in the trunk to store a wheelchair as needed.

If you require a wheelchair-accessible taxi while in Plovdiv, you can contact Global Tour at +359 (32) 331 230 to arrange the necessary transport services.

Plovdiv taxi safety and complaints

It’s not uncommon in Plovdiv to come across ‘fake’ taxis that will try to overcharge you so it is important to always check that there is an official company logo on the vehicle, along with a price list displayed in the window. Regulated taxis may also try to overcharge by taking a longer route or not resetting the taximeter.

If you feel you have been taken advantage of in any way or made to feel unsafe, you can report your driver using the number displayed on their registration details within the vehicle, or make your complaint directly to the police. If you intend on making a complaint, take note of the taxi and driver registration details, as well as the company.
