Taxi service in Boracay

You won’t find any traditional taxis on the island of Boracay. If you’re looking for a Boracay taxi service, you will have to use one of the 2 to 4-seater electric tricycles, known as E-Trikes. These small taxis are great for zipping around the narrow island roads and provide a run and fast way to get from point A to B and explore Boracay. The E-Trike Boracay taxi rates are fixed and heavily monitored, so you should be able to plan your trips easily.

You can find a taxi in Boracay by hailing one of the tricycles in the street, walking to a taxi stand, using a Boracay taxi app, calling a local taxi, or pre-booking your rides with a private company.

There are still a few motorized tricycles left on the island of Boracay, even though the government has tried to switch them all to the more eco-friendly E-Trikes. These motorized taxis aren’t fully regulated and will have price fluctuations, so we strongly suggest only using the E-Trikes where possible.

Boracay taxi rates

The Boracay taxi rates are fixed and governed by the island authorities. There’s an official rate sheet of common routes and fares that all drivers must adhere to. The minimum fare for any ride on the island is €0.25 (PHP 15), while you can enjoy a full tour of the island for the day, which will cost €8 (PHP 500). There’s no change in fares when traveling at night, but students do get a 30% discount on all fares, while senior citizens can enjoy 20% off.

For example, if you’re traveling from the main port to the popular Angol hotel, you will be charged €0.25 (PHP 15) for the 8-minute E-Trike Boracay taxi ride. If you’re traveling from the city center to the famous White Beach, you will be charged the same fare of €0.25 (PHP 15). For a longer ride, such as traveling from the main port to CityMall, you will pay €0.56 (PHP 35).

How to get a taxi in Boracay

The E-Trike and tricycle Boracay taxis are very easy to spot and are available 24 hours a day. There are hundreds of these brightly colored vehicles driving around the island, usually painted in bright blue or bright green.

You can hail a passing taxi in Boracay, walk to a taxi stand, call a local driver, use the Boracay taxi app, or pre-book your rides for a more personalized experience. You will find Boracay taxi stands around the island at most major beaches, the port, the main shopping malls (D’Mall and CityMall), and large resorts.

How to get a taxi from Boracay Jetty Port

The Jetty Port is the main access point from the mainland. This is where all tourists will dock when visiting the island. Because of this, there are usually plenty of E-Trikes and tricycles waiting to pick up passengers whenever a boat is chartered to arrive. Taking an E-Trike is recommended over a tricycle if you’re carrying lots of luggage. Taxis offer fixed fares from the Jetty Port, and it will cost around €0.25 (PHP 15) to take a Boracay taxi to most major resorts.

How to get a taxi from D’Mall

D’Mall is the most popular open-air shopping center on the island. After an afternoon of shopping, you can catch a taxi from the rank located on the main road. The rank can be found along the main road, just outside of Boracay Beach Truck, and taxis are available from 09:00 to 20:00.

How to get a taxi from CityMall

There’s a dedicated Boracay taxi rank conveniently located just outside of CityMall. After exiting the main doors, you will head down the steps and will see the line of E-Trikes waiting on your right. These taxis offer fixed fares all over the island and are available from 09:00 to 21:00.

Using a taxi app in Boracay

There’s one Boracay taxi app available to book your rides through, and that’s Boracay Xpress. Using this taxi app is a great idea if you’re traveling late at night and don’t wish to be out in the streets, or if you’re traveling from a remote beach location that doesn’t have a taxi rank.

However, as there’s only one taxi app that works on the island, wait times can be extremely long. To avoid these long and frustrating wait times, you can always pre-book your rides with a private taxi company such as Welcome Pickups.

Useful Boracay taxi numbers

There are no official phone dispatch taxi companies in Boracay. If you’re looking for a Boracay taxi number, we suggest asking one of the local drivers for their number or card. They will be more than happy to drive to your location and pick you up if you text or call them on their personal phone for an extra fee.

Pre-booking your Boracay taxi

As there are no standard taxis in Boracay, if you’re looking for a comfortable, airconditioned vehicle, with space for luggage, you will have to pre-book this service with a private company.

Pre-booking your Boracay taxi with a company such as Welcome Pickups will ensure a 5-star service with English-speaking drivers, competitive fixed-rate fares, guaranteed on-time pickups, and 24-hour customer service.

Boracay taxi tips

  1. Be sure to agree on the price of your journey before getting in the taxi. If you have doubts, ask to see the tariff sheet.
  2. There are discounts for students and senior citizens, be sure to ask if you qualify for these discounts.
  3. The motorized taxis can take 2 passengers, while the larger E-Trikes can take up to 4 people.
  4. Getting a taxi in Boracay will be extremely difficult during bad weather. We suggest keeping a local taxi driver’s number or using a Boracay taxi app during these times.
  5. You must pay for your rides in cash as the local drivers don’t accept card payments.
  6. Be sure to bring change in Philippine Pesos to pay for your rides, the drivers don’t carry a lot of small notes.
  7. Tipping for your taxi service in Boracay isn’t obligatory, but rounding up your fare is always appreciated.
  8. Pre-booking your taxi in Boracay will give you the peace of mind of guaranteed on-time pickups, hand-picked English-speaking local drivers, competitive fixed-rate fares, and 24/7 customer support.

Wheelchair-accessible Boracay taxi

Unfortunately, due to the nature of the taxis on Boracay, they aren’t wheelchair accessible, nor is there anywhere to store a foldable wheelchair. If you require a specialized transport service, we strongly suggest pre-booking this through your hotel or travel agent before arriving on the island of Boracay.

Boracay taxi safety and complaints

Boracay taxi drivers are usually very friendly and happy individuals. However, it is common for some drivers to try and increase their fares, especially when traveling in unmonitored motorized tricycles. To avoid these issues, always try to travel in the newer and larger E-Trikes, which have monitored fixed-rate fares.
