Travel safely with Welcome Pickups
Net Safety Score
We’ve introduced a metric indicating how safe travellers feel when using our services during the COVID-19 pandemic. After every ride, we ask each traveller to leave a review.
20 minute gap between transfers
Following each ride, our drivers have at least 20 minutes to thoroughly clean the surfaces of the car and ventilate the cabin.
Regular Car Sanitisation
Our drivers thoroughly sanitise and disinfect cars according to Welcome Safety Protocol
When you book, you can request to have zero contact with the driver during the transfer with just one click. In this case, the driver won’t help you with your luggage or shake hands.
Sanitiser in every car
We provide hand sanitisers and hand wipes for all our travellers. Our drivers have their own sanitiser, which they use before and after every ride

Cost of a Tijuana Taxi
Although all Tijuana taxis should be fitted with an officially calibrated taximeter, many drivers don’t have one in their taxi, or you may come across a driver whose taximeter isn’t working. If this is the case, you can wait for another taxi or agree on a price with the driver before beginning your journey. On the other hand, if your driver does have a working taximeter fitted, the fares will be charged as follows:
Base fare: €1.50 (MXN 30)
Price per km: €1.10 (MXN 23)
Waiting fee per 1 hour: €9 (MXN 180)

How to get a Taxi in Tijuana
The quickest and easiest way to get a taxi in Tijuana is by hailing one in the street. Simply hold your hand out when you see an empty taxi and they will stop for you. On the other hand, you can walk to a taxi rank, known locally as ‘Sitios’, which can be found outside all large shopping malls, supermarkets, bus stations and tourist attractions.
If you’re travelling late at night and don’t want to wait in the street for a Tijuana taxi, you can either book your transport in advance, or call one of the local Tijuana taxi companies to come and collect you. Some of the more trusted phone dispatch companies are:

Tijuana Taxi Tips
- Be sure to agree on a fixed fare with your driver before beginning your journey if the taxi doesn’t have a meter.
- Not all Tijuana taxi drivers speak English, be sure to write down addresses or show the driver on your phone.
- Taxis in Tijuana don’t accept card payments, you must pay in either Mexican Pesos or USD in cash.
- Tipping isn’t expected but is always appreciated. You can add up to 10-15% to your final fare.
Wheelchair Accessible Tijuana Taxi Company
In general, Tijuana isn’t the most wheelchair-friendly place to visit. This is also true when it comes to finding transportation for wheelchair users looking for a vehicle with a ramp or hydraulic lift. The standard Tijuana taxi cabs don’t offer these services, so you will have to book in advance with a specialised transport provider. One Tijuana taxi company that does offer wheelchair-accessible vehicles and other special medical transport is Pro Shuttle.
Tijuana Taxi Safety and Complaints
Taking a taxi in Tijuana is usually safe and reliable. However, as there are quite a few different private taxi companies working throughout the city, you may get varied levels of service. If you do experience any issues such as overcharging, a rude driver or feel your safety is at risk, you can call the tourist police helpline on 078. Bilingual staff are available 24/7 and will be able to assist you with a complaint or claim.
